Caishan Natural Park

Reviewed By CrystinePolk - Kaohsiung, Taiwan

Monkey mountain as it;s called by locals is such a fun hike right in Kaohsiung. You will always see lots of monkeys and there are loads of trails. If you don't want to get lost, stick to the stairs go up to the top and get some fresh brewed barley tea. The locals serve this to all who trek up. Real nice any time of the year but hot in the summer so go early. It;s a lot of stairs so if you have bad knees this may not be for you.

Takao Railway Museum

Reviewed By SmartTravellerHK

The last train left the city’s oldest train station in 2008. Now, it is a museum devoted to telling the story of rail travel in Taiwan. Entrance to the railway museum is free. Enter the museum to browse its various locomotives that date back many decades. Capture photos of the models and imagine traveling in these outdated trains. See the old-fashioned steam engines on display. We enjoyed seeing the few locomotives, the empty tracks and a place for local artist to display their art.

Shoushan Guojia Natural Park

Reviewed By fgmoria - Manila, Philippines

My 86-year-old mother and I visited the Shoushan Natural Park last year. It was the rainy season in Kaohsiung, but we were fortunate that it was a perfect sunny day. Likewise, oddly yet luckily, there were no other tourists during our visit, so literally we had the place just to ourselves. Located high above the city, the place had a Love Lookout which offered stunning views of Kaohsiung City skyline, Cijin Island, and the harbor. Nearby was a low-level "observatory" where we could see a better view of the city. The Martyrs’ Shrine, also beside the Love Lookout, had traditional Chinese temples and garden. From the front of the Shrine, the harbor could also be seen amidst the greenery. The entire place was definitely picture-worthy. We wished we could have stayed longer; there was so much tranquility, nature and history all combined. My elderly mother and I enjoyed this place, and we recommend this to visitors in Kaohsiung. It goes without saying, then, that this place is accessible to and enjoyable for elderly tourists, and the family as whole. We would like to thank our English-speaking private tour guide Mr. Henry Chen (+886 935 429 061) for bringing me and my mother to this place.
