Greeneville is a town in, and the county seat of Greene County, Tennessee, United States. The population as of the 2010 census was 15,062. The town was named in honor of Revolutionary War hero Nathanael Greene. It is the only town with this spelling in the United States, although there are numerous U.S. towns named Greenville. The town was the capital of the short-lived State of Franklin in the 18th-century history of the Tennessee region.

The museum is surprisingly well done. The outside makes it look small but inside is very nice! The visit is well worth the price of admission. A great deal, especially for two people! All the cars are in great condition and quite a few that I have never seen before. I will return with friends and go again.

I had been trying to get decent seats to see Smokey Robinson for 10 years-and no matter how much I tried to buy good seats, they were gone within minutes. When I found out Smokey was playing at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center-I jumped on the Internet a minute after they went on sale and got lucky. I scored two seats dead center about 6 rows back, but knew nothing about this place. My wife quickly gave me a rundown on the owner and some history. Niswonger Performing Arts does a lot of C&W in TN but occasionally will sponsor other groups like Smokey Robinson or Toto. America will be there this February. I was very impressed with this facility and will absolutely return. It was a little hard to find (not knowing Greeneville) but parking was free and plentiful in the school parking lot. The hotel in town was high end-4 star with a great bar. I did not realize until we got there that this event was a partial charity for a local hospital. This facility is very professional, the staff is polite and friendly, and all seats are pretty good-with very impressive acoustics. It reminded me a little of the Fox in Detroit on a lesser scale with a TN flair. And Lo and Behold-we had a Motown entourage directly in the entire row in front of us. I am pretty sure Berry Gordy was sitting in front of my wife. All I can say about seeing and hearing a Smokey Robinson performance in person AND close-up - it was one of the best concerts I have ever attended. I was blown away by Smokey’s incredibly spot on performance and his entire band were as close to perfect as you can get. When he got into some of his classic cuts such as “Being with You” he brought it up to level of perfection that I would never believe was possible. His outfit was spectacular, and the back-up performers were incredible. Sure he is in his 70’s, but he is still as good now as he was 40 years ago! My hats off to ALL the Motown performers of the past and the ones that are still touring after all these years. There will never be another sound like the Motown sound, and I really like the small venue approach they use VS the large highly Commercialized Concert venues the other Rock Performers use. (I saw the Four tops in Vegas 25 years ago at a Casino.) I appreciate all the music that Smokey, Diana, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, and all the other Motown greats have given us throughout the years. Niswonger-keep up the good work and glad we are within driving distance. Scott Niswonger is really a credit to the community and I am glad we discovered the Niswonger Performing Arts Center

On a recent vacation to Tennessee, I wanted to include a stop at the Andrew Johnson National Historic Site. As an American history buff, I love visiting sites and learning more about the individuals. I have always felt that Johnson was a “wrong place, wrong time” individual, thus making him the first impeached President in US history. This delightful site, completed with movie, recreated birthplace, first home in Greenville, original tailor shop, small museum, final resting place, and the final family home, encompassed much of who Johnson was! I thoroughly enjoyed learning more about Lincoln’s second vice president. Our tour guide, ranger Emma, was incredibly knowledgeable about the life and times of Johnson; complete with stories of the impact of a Southern President with no Congressional support during the Reconstruction. We were also there during a boy scout venue on the property, so we were treated to costumed docents in addition, to uniformed ones. The boy scouts added to the authenticity with some firing demonstrations. As a warning, there isn’t much else in the area.

This museum was included with a student field trip to the Andrew Johnson home. I was very impressed with the multitude and diversity of artifacts, including military, quilts, farming, to name a few. I also found the display of slave descendants of the Johnson family display quite interesting. It is obvious that much care and detail has been given to the displays. There was also had a play area for very young children. My only regret is that we spent just 30 minutes here. I literally could have stayed for hours. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful as well.
