I have Snorkeled and Scuba Dived all over the world for over 50 years. This is absolutely the best Snorkeling I have ever experienced!!! SCHOOLS of beautiful fish and healthy vibrant corals of MANY varieties!!! It changes ever 50' or so as you move around and change your location. Yes it is hard on your feet and requires a water taxi that you should prepay, and finding shade will be an issue, but totally worth it!!! Not for Beach combers. We are going on another cruise just to return here and experience this amazing place again. The number, variety, and beauty of the marine life here is unequaled by any place else I have ever been!!! My husband and I had pre-booked this day trip before we left on our cruise, but some just found these guys in the carpark near the visitor's centre when we disembarked. The first pleasant surprise was the "water taxi" - it was a really fun ride! And the island, wow, it's stunning and so few people! And the best part - we saw so many turtles! The water is shallow and clear, and they lent us pool noodles (we had our own snorkels & masks & fins), so you were able to just draft along following a turtle grazing on the seagrass on the bottom! In fact they were so close, I would be filming and the swell would push me a bit too close so I would have to stop filming and paddle backwards to give the turtle some space! Would highly recommend this trip to anyone going to Noumea.

My husband, daughter and I did the tour on a cruise stopover. I booked/paid for tour from Brisbane and printed out the tickets to take with me. We got the bus from ship to ferry terminal, showed the tickets at Lyvai kiosk then walked along the water to wait under shade for the train and off we went. The lady guide was very informative and we enjoyed seeing the beaches and up into the hills for some fabulous views of the islands and out to sea. We made several stops to take photos then went through the city centre and back to the pick up point. The cost is less than half of the ship-organised tours, we paid roughly A$130 for 3 of us and the equivalent tour from the ship was close to A$300 (US$59pp). The ship tour is the yellow tchou tchou train which basically does the same route around Noumea. You are able to book tours at the ferry terminal but we booked at Lyvai.com online no problem. I would highly recommend this tour as a good introduction (2 hours) to Noumea and surrounds.
