Dominguez Canyon

A spectacular red rock canyon.

We hiked the Bridgeport trail which was mostly dry even though snow blanketed some of the entrance road off Route 50. Quiet and peaceful, this hike was beautiful with steep canyon walls, a bubbling stream and almost a mystical feeling as we were walking where ancient people had once walked. We met no one but a flock of wild turkeys during our 6 hour trek. If you want to get away from it all for a winter hike, this is the place. After you cross the railroad tracks, the trail is still quite a ways. Look for a bridge across the river marked "no entry" and the bridge you want is just beyond it up river. There is a wooden fence and a BLM map and sign just before the bridge.

Willow Creek Herbs and Teas

This is exactly the sort of specialty shop that I want to visit when I travel. It is a small and very welcoming shop. The first thing you see when you go in is a plethora of paintings, carvings and jewelry - most are done by local artists but there are works from Native Americans as well. You can also find a good selection of coffee and tea cups (both for the house and for on-the-go). I love the mate bombilla (wooden or stainless steel straws). They were made for yerba mate - but they make a great thing to use in your travel mug is you like to drink whole leaf brewed teas. This is something I bought here that has made travel easier for me. Of course the shop smells wonderful The back half of the store is dedicated to a really amazing selection of herbs, spices and teas (both traditional and herbal teas). When I travel - I love picking up interesting herbs and teas and spices so I have culinary memories of my trip!
