What to do and see in Granada, Andalucia: The Best Art Galleries

September 25, 2021 Tambra Mccollister

The Alhambra citadel of Granada is one of the most famous buildings in Spain: a Moorish fortress with grand archways and delicate ornamental mosaics. Step backwards in time as you wind through the ascending cobblestone streets of Albayzin. You’ll be rewarded with beautiful views from the Mirador San Nicolas. Granada’s nightlife is vibrant and varied, thanks in part to its student population. Hit the bars of Calle Elvira or, for a quieter outing, the traditional tea rooms of La Calle de Las Teterias.

Galeria Alea

Galeria Alea is an art space, a gallery, a shop, an atelier of two artists, Eugen Badurina and Tim Adami, who promote local art though the idea of souvenirs which hare in an accessible price range. The art works are hand made; unique pieces or limited editions of a larger collection; some elegant and some provocative ones.

I was so happy to stumble upon Alea Galeria with just a few hours to spare on my trip to Granada! Ended up speaking with Roman, one of the artists at the shop, for a considerable amount of time. He was so friendly and gave my travel friend and I a bunch of local things to do in our last few hours. (My only regret is that we found him so late, that we could only squeeze in one or two of his recommendations) I like that he gave us truly local idea's for things to do (I am not into touristy stuff). Also, this is a great place to buy a unique and authentic Granada souvenir. I got a gorgeous gold plated bracelet that I am totally obsessed with. Also, the art prints at this spot are out of this world! I can't recommend enough! Thank you Alea Galeria!

We came across this beautiful studio on our way to Sacromonte. They sell amazing handmade glass work and all is made by the husband and wife. We bought a beautiful glass magnate of Alhambra. The owner was very nice and helpful. It’s definitely worth the visit!

Gym Halama is an artist and owns her own gallery in the Lecrin Valley. You can see her work on the ground floor at the Sandpit Gallery where she also lives and paints in her studio upstairs. The building is an old mill tucked away on the edge of the village, and has been converted sympathetically to house her paintings. Refreshments are available on request, there is seating in and outside.
