Welcoming, tolerant Gran Canaria offers a little something for everyone. Families flock to the water parks and beaches of Puerto Rico. Those seeking peaceful escape scamper to Mogan's quiet fishing villages. Gay visitors crowd the bars, restaurants and beaches of Playa del Ingles. Urban attractions are on offer in Las Palmas. Three highways open up the island for those with a rental car or a bus schedule. Prime sites to visit include Iglesia de San Juan Bautista de Arucas and Palmalitos zoo park.

If you are traveling in Gran Canaria, go up to the center of the island to its highest point and you will discover a dream view, especially at sunset From this viewpoint you will observe the wildest mountains of the island surrounded by lush pine trees, huge ravines, and views that fall more than 1000 meters down From here you can see the island of Tenerife and it is the point from which the Teide, the highest mountain in Spain, can be seen in all its splendor, looming above the sea of clouds, watching the sun disappear behind the island of Tenerife. it's a unique show Be careful, we are almost 2000 meters high, it cools at dusk, you have to bundle up and especially it is winter, this place is called Pozo de las Nieves because here many winters it snows even though we are in the Canary Islands The viewpoint parking is small, it is advisable to go early and if it is possible to avoid weekends, when leaving you have to be patient as a good caravan of cars is formed

If twisting roads and sheer drops are not your thing then don't go. This is the highest point on the island and if you are out this way and have a car you should go. There are walks to do from this point but there is notca lot of parking available.

Beautiful place to stop and take the walk. The roads are fun to drive. If you do love the mountains this is a must on your list. Picnic tables and fire pits are available in case you wish to pack a lunch.

If driving from the south where most resorts are towards Las Palmas, DO make this detour from GC-1 hwy up to the mountains. The road is clearly marked and in good condition. Best of all, it's driveable all the way up, so you reach it without any effort in the heat outside. You'll be rewarded with terrific views of the north/south/east of the island, specially with views of Las Palmas and it'll consume less than an hour of your time.
