Low key with very little amenities surrounding the park. Perfect for night sky photography! It feels like youre driving nowhere going in but once at the park you feel welcome and safe. You get the best of both worlds. Youre out in the middle of nowhere but its its own little compound of people and amenities.

We were in Mineral Wells for the day with grandchildren aged 10 & 13. Having never been to the park before we were not sure of what to expect. We did have the grandkids swimsuits. After driving around park and checking the camping areas and screened shelters we settled at the shop and lake.
They have kayaks and fishing jon boats to rent. The grandkids had a great time swimming at the beach. The temperature was 99 so hiking that day was out but we vow to return in the future.
Reasonable prices for day pass.

Great Mardi Gras parade thru town! Awesome shrimp festival. Plenty of shrimp and great band. Had a lot of fun dancing and great environment for the grandchildren! It was a great weekend visit from Bixby OK. Will definitely plan a visit next year for the celebration.

On my drive from Frisco to Lubbock, Tx I visited Fort Richardson State Park near Jonesboro, Tx. Located 60 miles (1 hr 12 mins) northwest of Fort Worth, Tx. This well preserved & maintained historical site is worth a visit. Ft Richardson interpretive center has a informative display of events during this time period. A self guided walking tour of the grounds with several original structures and a few additional interesting sites provides a nice view of the forts compound. It is a large open space without walls. The tour brochure provided information of each building/site. Home to 5,000+ U.S. Army soldiers & HQs for Mackenzie's 4th Cavalry regiment from 1867-1878, Ft Richardson was established to maintain martial law & reconstruction policies of the U.S government after the Civil War. In addition to Ft Richardson the adjacent park offers 5 hiking trails and 1 trail for hiking, biking & equestrian use. The trails range in length from .26 to 1.46 miles with the multi use trail at 9.0 miles. Other uses are swimming area, a natural spring, fishing pier & tent camping.

We enjoyed the gardens, they really are beautiful. Then we asked if we could have a tour of the house. The attendant was very knowledgeable, friendly, and gave great explanations of details that we would not have known about. Our experience was greatly enhanced by having the Gardens attendant provide some wonderful narrative and added fabric and color of history and personality to our visit. Memorable, thank you!

As another reviewer has mentioned, this is much more than an old jail museum. The site includes four nicely restored historic cabins, a carriage house with a restored buggy, a two-story restored stone fort, yard area with jail holding cells and farm and ranch implements, and the wonderful 1880 two-story stone jail and museum. The museum inside the old jail is full of fascinating and well-designed exhibits covering all subjects of Palo Pinto county history. Inside the Welcome Center are other displays and currently a special exhibit on the Goodnight-Loving Trail. The very friendly and knowledgeable lady in the Welcome Center took me on a nice tour and then had to hurry off to help the other visitors who were arriving on this busy Saturday morning. There was not much to see on the courthouse square on a Saturday morning in this very small town, as the courthouse was closed, but the Old Jail Museum is a definite stop as you come to Palo Pinto traveling east or west on Hwy 180 west of Mineral wells. Open Mar-Dec, Thur-Sat 10-3. Recommended.

This hotel overlooks the lake from the top of cliffs, amazing beauty! Rooms are very nice. Marina has options to rent to get out on the water if you like. Took a 2 person jet ski around the lake and had a blast. Very romantic place!

Brought my mother to see the gardens. She loved it! Everything was beautiful! So many fun things to see at every turn. Met one of the daughters of Clark family. She shared stories of the place. There are plenty of benches to stop and rest if you have physical challenges. We plan to come back in the fall.

The Famous Mineral Water Company was established in 1904 by Ed Dismuke. The Famous continues to bottle the waters that brought health seekers to Mineral Wells a century ago. The historic Crazy Water mineral water is now only available through the Famous Mineral Water Company.

This is a small store which sells crazy water, crazy soda, and souvenirs like t-shirts & hats. You can buy water already bottled or you can bottle your own. They do have a mineral content list for the 3 different waters. My hubby got a bottle of Apple crazy soda, and enjoyed it. Worth a stop if in the area.

The Palo Pinto County Courthouse is in Palo Pinto, Texas twelve miles southwest of Mineral Wells. Its in the Brazos River Valley and near Interstate 20 and on U.S. Highway 180. This is a small farming area with interesting sights here and along Highway 180.
