What to do and see in Goya, Community of Madrid: The Best Food & Drink

July 6, 2021 Sachiko Swiger

So many of Madrid’s buildings look like castles, you’ll think you’ve stumbled into a fairytale. Even City Hall is astounding, with its white pinnacles and neo-Gothic features. A self-guided architecture tour can begin by the great bear statue in the central Puerta del Sol. Wander by the fanciful Royal Palace before absorbing the natural beauty of Retiro Park, then visit one of the city’s many museums. You could happily cap off each day by nibbling on forkfuls of paella while sipping Spanish rioja.

Wine Lovers - Amantes del vino

Whether you're travelling solo or in a group, if you enjoy socialising with great wine and good food and you want a real insight into what it's like to live in Madrid, then 'Wine Lovers' Madrid is the event for you. We are a friendly social group that runs wine tasting evenings for locals, expats and tourists alike. Held in authentic local bars you will try 3 or more Spanish wines washed down with Spanish tapas. There are many wine tours available for the keen oenophile, but appreciating Spanish wine need not be complicated or expensive. For 20€ we will introduce you to the main Spanish wine regions and some very drinkable wines. We are an informal group with an emphasis on the social rather than the educational. We happily provide information on the wines and foods present to those who want to know, or another top up to those who prefer to just appreciate. For something different why not try one of our Spanish Organic Wine Tasting evenings. These wines contain no added chemicals such as sulphites and tend to be a lot kinder on the body (and the head !). Plus they taste great ! So, come along !! We are a friendly group and we always have fun

Chef Fernando was wonderful and very knowledgeable the tour of the market provided a good overview of what to look for at the market and understanding what we are buying. The cooking class itself was a lot of fun and social maybe not as hands on as we preferred but learned A LOT from Fernando - not just technique but why we should do what we need to do. After the class we did get a discount on items in one of the shops and even purchased a paella (pan) to take home and we never buy anything on holiday. Can't wait to show off to our friends at home:)
