We took the two eldest grandchildren on the boat trip. They even let them have a go at driving the boat round the canals. It was really exciting.. The guide told us so much about the history of the docks and the area in general I would really recommend it - not just for kids but everyone

We visited for a few hours on a Friday afternoon. The architecture and history of the place were both stunning and fascinating. The local visitors centre was open so we were able to find out more about the area and the minister. The village is worth a visit even though there are only a few shops and pubs. You can trace most buildings history. Quaint, historical & interesting.

14/7/16. Being a keen amateur Wildlife Photographer I was fairly excite to discover there was a Nature Resrve close to my home.......This site does have the potential to be a fantastic nature reserve, however currently it is in its VERY Infancy and requires considerable effort and resources . It is currently very badly signposted, for example NO SUCH road as Tom Pudding Way exists at present. There are no indications that there is a parking area nor signs! By pure determination eventually found a sign describing Tom Puddings.
The first real signs are actually approx 1.7km's into the reserve! One indicates that it is 306 metres to the Lake Walk....more like 800 metres. And if you want to actually see the Lake/Pond then I strongly suggest that visitors take 1. A Machete. 2. Leather Leggings and 3. ANti Nettle Sleeves, it is that overgrown!
Nothing that £5M and 10 years with an army of volunteers wont put right..... The facilities are currently almost non existent and it would not be ideal for anyone with evwen slight disabilities to either access or walk round, fit, exceesively keen and very determined are the main requisites if you visit here. Earlier described as a Pearl in Gooles Crown, only if Pearls have changed to Nutty Slack!

Sugar Mill Ponds Rawcliffe Bridge

Reviewed By 2014Jandy - Nottingham, United Kingdom

We were travelling home when we spotted a sign for Sugar Mill Ponds and headed off the main road to find it. The turning is hard to find as the entrance is down a small lane but this opens out into a space for car parking for a few cars once you reach the end. There are two large ponds with ducks and lots of birds. There is a walk around the lake and a picnic area. It was lovely and peaceful when we visited. Originally clay pits and there is a board with the history of the site which is very interesting. Worth a few minutes drive away from the main road if you are in the area.

These are local ponds for us, otherwise there’s no reason to go there. You can do some fishing, and watch the wildlife, but otherwise, you’re better off leaving it alone for the birds to enjoy. It’s a small body of water with some reeds.

Have visited countless reserves, RSPB, WWT etc, but this was one of our favourites. We'd just come from RSPB Minsmere which was a touch 'touristy', and with this being a bit off the beaten track is was busy, but overly, and the people there seemed very keen birdwatchers. The staff were helpful and friendly, the local people likewise. A really good mix of hides with plenty to see.
Highly recommended, a really enjoyable day out.

Barlow Common Nature Reserve

A fantastic open space and nature reserve which, if looked after better could be a fabulous place and draw for many people.
Things are being done to improve it. Picnic tables, sculptures to creature a walk etc but still needs lots of attention.
Maybe get some more attention drawn to it and funding!!
