The villa called Canaro from the "place of marsh reeds adjacent to the Madama pit" was built in 1468 probably by Luca Fancelli for the Marquis of Gonzaga as a representative palace. At the end of the seventeenth century the house was raised to obtain an airy double-volume hall with a balustrade and a large vestibule in the center, which was then frescoed by Pietro Mazzoccoli. In front of the main entrance there is an imposing eighteenth-century brick arch.
