Bankfoot House Heritage Precinct

Enjoy a free guided tour of state heritage-listed Bankfoot House. The heritage precinct is open Friday - Sunday, 10am to 3pm (closed public holidays). Bankfoot House was built in 1868 in time to greet the first Cobb & Co coach on its journey from Brisbane to the Gympie goldfields. It is the oldest surviving residence in the Glass House Mountains and the last surviving Cobb & Co staging post on this route. With Mt Tibrogargan as a backdrop, the property was once a lunch stop, staging post, post office and accommodation. Bankfoot House stayed in the same family for 134 years, making this property a unique and authentic heritage experience. It demonstrates the tenacity, ingenuity and adaptability of early settlers and subsequent farming generations. The precinct offers a full heritage and museum experience including interactive displays, films, guided house tours and a self-guided tour of the shed, wagon, interpretive centre and grounds. Bring a picnic, discover and enjoy.

Parrots in Paradise

Welcome to Parrots in Paradise, we are a not for profit parrot sanctuary situated in the heart of the Glass House Mountains, QLD. The Goals and philosophy of parrots in paradise is to educate people about the intelligence and needs of parrots, both physical and mental, through entertainment and interaction with our birds. Don't miss out on interacting with the birds at our Hobby Home Show, or for a personal walk through with one of our experts, and of course a cup of tea or coffee in the beautiful gardens. This is not only a place to visit but we also breed and provide boarding facilities for your birds and any advice or problems don't hesitate to ask. Please phone us to make a booking and find out more. Bookings are ESSENTIAL in order for you not to miss out! We have more than three hundred fifty birds on the property. Some are rescued, some are surrendered, some just unwanted birds, and there are others who are extremely unusual, incredibly rare or very valuable. We do our very best to see that all these birds have a partner, and allow them to breed naturally.

We had a fun and informative behind-the-scenes tour with Win, who showed us all the beautiful birds that live at the sanctuary and explained to us the important work they do there. It is extremely well-run, tidy and welcoming. We especially loved the chance to hold some of the birds and take photos. They were even kind enough to let me back for a quick visit after-hours to take some more as my photos had not saved properly on my phone. The owners and volunteers who run Parrots in Paradise work very hard and it is well worth a visit if you are in the area as the cost of your ticket goes towards running the centre. There is also a sweet little gift shop where you can buy some nice souvenirs. Remember to book in advance as it is a working sanctuary and they are busy looking after the birds.

Popular easy climb with great views at the top. Lots of families and suitable for younger kids but watch them at the summit. It will get your heart rate up but no big deal for average fitness level. Be watchful at the top there are big drops in some areas. Allow say 40 minutes up if you keep moving at a steady pace .

Wonderful relaxing walk around the Mount Tibrogargan circuit track. Takes one and a half hours on an easily negotiated pathway . Some steps clearly identified with gradual slopes. Fantastic views and even a few well positioned informative signs and seating to enjoy the scenery. Watch out for monitor lizards!
