Hidden Lake

A superb fishing lake where catching 20-inch fish is common.

This is a very crowded hike but the views and wildlife make this trail worth it. Most of the hike is uphill on boardwalks and the views, streams, snow, mountain goats, bighorn sheep and occasionally a grizzly make this hike really cool.

We had a wonderful 5-6 miles walk through the woods and field, lunching at an overlook over Missoula. The drive to the Sawmill Gulch Trailhead was very easy.

Flathead Lake

This was one of the prettiest places I have ever visited. The water is cold and amazingly clear. The views all around are gorgeous. There is a paved highway all around the lake with many places to stop and sightsee. We had a great afternoon flying a kite at a lakeside park.

Missoula Farmer's Market

I lived in Missoula from August 1997-August 2000. I still have lots of friends who live there. One of my FAVORITE things to do in the summer, was go to the Farmer's Market! Tons of fresh fruits and vegetables to choose from, flowers, baked goods, artists, jewelers, and more, more, more! I can virtually guarantee you'll enjoy yourself! :)

Kootenai Falls & Swinging Bridge

Reviewed By Schofield1956 - Mountainair, United States

Stunning views and a suspension bridge. What more could you ask for? Highly recommend. But ... not an easy hike. About a quarter of a mile from the parking lot ... over rocks, boulders, and tree roots. Plus a covered railroad crossing that has 3.5 flights of stairs. Plus a steep drop to the river. Remember ... it is all uphill on the way back. But ... highly recommended.

Jewel Basin Hiking Area

Reviewed By CATTSAR - Provincetown, United States

With tens of thousands of acres and dozens of trails this is a hikers paradise. Located east of Kalispell, and past the Hungry Horse Dam, access in the winter becomes considerably more restricted. The use of a four wheel drive made this trip possible. We drove in about 8 miles or so on the west side of the dam to Jimmy Trail. The trail is fairly strenuous and the calf deep snow added to that. The trail ascends steeply in numerous places with almost no flat or plateau areas. The views through the trees are breathtaking and it was well worth the effort. This is a remote area and precautions are necessary. Bring supplies and at least bear spray, as bears, mountain lions and bobcats are present. Our hike was about three miles out and back. This time of year there is almost no vehicular or pedestrian traffic, though snow mobiles could be heard in the distance. On a sadder note the beetles have done an enormous amount of damage to the trees. So much more to do.

We stopped in the art gallery during a walk around the area when we arrived in Whitefish. The gorgeous flowers outside the gallery stopped me so I could take some photos. We wanted to see what was inside. There are lots of amazing pieces of art -- wood carvings, paintings, multi-media pieces and more! Much of it is large and western-centric; many items are expensive (competitively priced for what you're purchasing). The back room holds more moderately priced pieces that are easy to pack in your luggage to bring home.

Great place for some unique cocktails. The salt and pepper martini is amazing! Service was great. A good little spot to have a couple of drinks. Make a reservation as seating is limited.
