The Wine Buff

The Wine Buff Experience enhances your visit to this amazing Unesco Heritage Site. Paddy O' Flynn, owner of The Wine Buff Experience, has resided in St Emilion for over 30 years, Paddy also owns his own vineyard in the region, and founded The Wine Buff®, Ireland's premium wine supplier. Our principal activities are producing, and sourcing, artisanal wines from trusted vineyards. We demystify wine within the walls of our 13th century monolithic cellar. In addition to our wine tasting experience, we serve gourmand Tapas in our secluded courtyard. Pilar Manzano Sanchez-Ocana, our resident Oenologist/Biologist, selects the most prestigious Jamon Iberico, caviar, artisanal foie gras, artisanal pate de Campagne and delicious cheeses to further educate/challenge your palate.

This is a fantastic wine shop in the centre of St Emillion. Paddy and Pilla are fantastic hosts and have an extremely well picked and rounded selection of wines for sale (and tasting). They give honest, straight forward (and jovial) appraisals of their wines which makes for a really enjoyable experience. It’s great to chat with them through their understanding of the region and their expert knowledge of the production of wine. Paddy took me and my brother In law on a visit to his vineyard which was a once in a lifetime experience! Pilla even had a box of Lego for my son to play with whilst we had a tasting! Congratulations Paddy and Pilla on your success with the Wine Buff which again I cannot recommend highly enough to anyone! Thank you and speak soon, Sláinte, Jack.

Max Bordeaux

Welcome to Max Bordeaux and its magical concept that opens wines such as Latour, Margaux, Haut-Brion, Cheval Blanc, Mouton Rothschild and Yquem to everyone! You wouldn’t buy a car before test driving it, so before buying a Grand Cru, you will want to have tasted it first! An innovative concept paired alongside an educational approach: each wine is presented with the history of the chateau, the winemaking techniques and the tasting notes. You credit a tasting card that is given to you upon arrival to the gallery with your desired amount. Each time you taste a new wine, the corresponding amount is debited based on the size of tasting you choose (25, 50, or 75 mL). Private Wine tasting workshops can be held with a sommelier who explains the history of the Grand Cru Classe with a comparative tasting between different appellations.

Wine tasting focused on education. The room isn’t terribly interesting but the wine is terrific and the staff was wonderful.

Chateau Chasse-Spleen

Chasse-Spleen is spreading in the Moulis area over 90 hectares (222 Acres. This magic name (chasing out the blues) is probably the result of a discussion back in 1860 between Rosa Ferriere, the Mistress of the place and her neighbour, Odilon Redon, a well-known symbolist painter. He was, among other things, the autor of the illustrations for Charles Baudelaires's Les Fleurs du Mal, in wich it is now known he copyrighted the word Spleen. In 1976, Chasse-Spleen was sold to Jacques Merlaut, a well-known wholesaler. In 2000, he entrusted one of his grand daughters : Céline Villars.

We popped in and had a cheeky glass of Champagne on two nights before we went out, great little place that is excellent value for money with most champagnes being available by the glass. Little plates of tasters to accompany our drinks, great ambience and service.
