Nunney Castle

Reviewed By Ken R - Andover, United Kingdom

If you take the back road out of Frome to return to civilisation you drive through Nunney and the castle is really difficult to miss.
It’s well worth stopping for a 15 minute walk around.
With free entry and being open “at any reasonable time” (that’s what the board says) it is worth a wander.
Serious history having been built in the 13th century and in place until the civil war. It’s a small castle so doesn’t take long to go around.
If you have small children, take care as there is a moat and it’s good to see the health and safety jobsworths haven’t insisted there is a barrier.
We really enjoyed it.

The Frome Independent

Reviewed By WiffyBoy - Frome, United Kingdom

The monthly Frome Independent market is brilliant - and we've experienced plenty of markets. Loads of local produce from cheeses to micro brewery ciders and beers and juices to organic vegetables, meats - even water buffalo, pastries and cakes rivalling the best of any French patisserie.
There's live music, gorgeous smells wafting from pop up eateries and a huge brocante and collectibles area too. Far from not wanting to make eye contact with stallholders because you know you won't want anything, at this market you'll want nearly everything the quality is so high, but the prices aren't.
Don't forget the fabulous shops along Catherine Hill, especially the retro shops, the wonderful bead shop, Kerry's Top of The Hill, the 'hardware' emporium.
Just go!!

What a lovely find, thanks to it being right next to the large car park. The current exhibition is displaying 100 works by very talented artists, each with a unique interpretation of a chosen subject and created in so many different methods. The gallery has a shop and the attached Divas Cafe has a splendid selection of fresh foods and served me one of the best coffees I've enjoyed in ages.

Have been to see several Exhibitions featuring Frome & its past, woollen industry, Singers, printing & other local industries. Although the Museum is not large the exhibits are always well laid out with informative labels. Friendly volunteers are always on hand & pleased to answer any questions. The Museum is free, I never mind putting in a donation though.

I'm still getting to know Frome and today's delight was to wander up the cobbled street of St Catherine's. This is the artisan quarter with cafes, delis, artist studios, uniquely different clothes shops, interior design shops, even a wonderful French style hardware store.
I must return as I am sure I did not take it all in. Store owners welcome you, the shopping is unique and a real experience.

Church of All Saints

Reviewed By Carol B - Birmingham, United Kingdom

Friday 29 July 16, My husband and I went to visit All Saints Church, near to Nunney Castle.
It was quite and cool in the church and very peaceful. There was an interesting information board about the history of the church. The memorials here were mainly the Del La Mere family, who were responsible for the building of the castle.
Outside there is a small but very neatly kept churchyard with some interesting gravestones, which are well worth looking at if you have the time.
