Unfortunately we didn’t quite reach 13000 feet due to the weather but you wouldn’t notice the difference as a customer - it’s still an amazingly thrilling experience, with absolutely beautiful scenery! Special thanks to Rodriguez and Peter for getting us down safely!

We were booked on a 9.00am flight and luckily the sky was clear - they have a few no go days due to cloud. The boots , crampons and wet weather gear is good quality and the instruction and guides are good. We had a good walk on the glacier and were shown various ice features and climbed into and through some of the caves and holes. The walking is easy with the crampons and no major level of fitness is required for this . It’s an all round fun adventure.

We did a review on our trip which was a snow landing on Franz Josef Glacier. There are several options available from Glacier Helicopters including snow landings or shorter trips without landing. They are very professional and helpful and I would not hesitate to recommend them. I would also recommend landing on the Glacier, it is a fabulous experience on top of the mountain.

Fox Glacier Hiking Trails

Reviewed By SteveDDD - Swindon, United Kingdom

We took this walk after our Heli - hike was cancelled due to changing weather. The weather had changed for the better within an hour or so and it was a warm walk through the amazing wide creek alongside the river and between soaring cliffs. Its free and you can park about 1.5km from the glacier and walk up. The walk was awesome and easy enough, though a bit steep at the end but we were fortunate to have sun and get some good views of the glacier. As other reviewers mention.. you can get much closer to this glacier than Franz Josef and others. Well worth it. The river had lumps of ice floating in it. So a great walk.

You want this, plain and simple. Really, you want this. Hike to the glacier face is under 2 hours, with a small number of inclines up to 10 degrees. Medium hiking effort, well worth it. Guides are totally unnecessary.

I cannot recommend the twin glacier landing and snow landing more highly.
Our pilot Michael was fantastic and the ground staff were helpful and very friendly. My little girls even started a snowball fight with him!!
The views from the chopper and snow landing were breath taking.
I would book with mountain helicopters again!!!!

What a perfect day! And well worth the cost. Alpine Adventures staff were very courteous and helpful. We received a safety briefing before getting into the helicopter. Our pilot was great, explaining terrain and geological formation. Do This!

Loved that it’s free and away from hoards of tourists. There were quite a few people walking at the same time as us but it didn’t distract from the enjoyment. Just nature doing its thing. Perfect. Walked the track twice, once during the day and once at night. I wouldn’t like to have missed either
