Hill-Stead Museum

This museum houses a large collection of French Impressionist paintings.

This museum really needs more attention, as it's a beautiful and hidden gem nestled in the hills and fields of Farmington. The (mostly Impressionist) artwork is beautiful and original, and is gorgeously showcased in an old, well-maintained estate. There's art from, among others, Monet, Whistler, and Degas; if you're able to take a tour, then please do so, as the tour guides are highly knowledgeable and clearly care about both the artwork and about making sure their guests have a good time. The grounds themselves are also beautiful - there's a sunken garden, a walking garden, and plenty of walking trails to soak in the beauty. Come here in the autumn to admire the foliage.

My coworkers and I decided to enjoy an evening out together and decided on a escape room. A few of us had been to different escape rooms while the rest had never been to an escape/ puzzle room before. We went to Complexity in Farmington,CT and decide to do the most challenging room “The Mall”. The Mall was very challenging, complex, entertaining, at times frustrating, fun, and just plain amazing. Our group of 7 all participated and everyone helped out to solve the clues. We did have to ask for some clues from the staff, but were proud of ourselves for completing all tasks with 1:04 minutes left to spare. Truly a mind boggling and fun time for all of us. We are definitely going back in the near future. The staff at Complexity were knowledgeable, kind, enthusiastic, and brilliant to develop such a clever themed puzzle room. The place was clean and the staff was very accommodating when some of of group was running late. Truly a must for all age groups- just choose the best room for your skilled group.

Winding trails has been a focus of my families entertainment now going on the 10 years that we've lived here. During the summer, it's Dunning lake has served as our beach with options for swimming, always with lifeguards, docks, boats/canoes/paddle boards/paddle boats for rent and a handy snack shack where you may purchase food in case you decide not to use one of the many barbecue stations they offer to grill the food that you brought. There are acres upon acres of trails to enjoy with tennis courts/basketball courts/children's playgrounds/ fields interspersed throughout the park-like environment. Waldens pond serves to introduce the nature preserving, environment teaching portion of the place with wildlife education being a primary focus. There is Nature's Porch, which houses exhibits and teaching tools to educate the visitor on the natural beauty of the surrounding environs. There are walkways on, and along the waterways to showcase the fish and native wildlife in their natural habitat. Newly "constructed" is a observation field where you can climb a tower and observe the wildlife in their natural states. There is a wonderful summer camp for children and incredible array of classes/lessons hosted by Winding Trails--too many and varied to list!! Fall through spring allows for season appropriate offerings, a huge variety from camping overnight to cross country skiing! The most beautiful part of the place is the incredible group people that run it, and ensure its success. Can't imagine our lives without it
