Six Flags St Louis

Reviewed By 866TaylorB - Chicago, United States

Six Flags St. Louis, or Missouri's Coaster Capital, is for small children and teenagers, not for 79-year-old retirees. But the amusement/theme park offers some attractions for old folks like us, like excellent dining locations and live entertainment. And people-watching is an activity for all ages. Located at 4900 Six Flags Road in Eureka, a St. Louis suburb, it opened in 1971, operates from March 23 to January 1 and covers 323 acres with 40 attractions, including nine roller coasters. There are eight themed areas, restaurants and live entertainment and adjacent Hurricane Harbor Water Park, which is free with park admission. In addition, the area features the Mall of Mid-America, a shopping mall complex that features many foods introduced or promoted at the 1904 World's Fair, which took place on this site, as well as buildings themed to the time period of the early 1900s. The eight themed areas are Gateway to the West, Chouteau's Market, Studio Backlot, DC Comics Plaza, Britannia, Illinois, Bugs Bunny National Park and Six Flags Hurricane Harbor. Perhaps the signature attraction is The Boss. Located in the Britannia section, it is a wooden terrain roller coaster built by Custom Coaster International. It was the eighth largest roller coaster in the world when it debuted in 2000, with a track length of 5,051 feet. Talk about scary. It is frightening to look at it, even if you're sitting on a bench. But it's a fun experience for all ages.
