An old fortress on a hill that is reached by steep stairs from the old town. It is a great place for excursions for all ages. A very beautifully preserved historical monument.

Craftspeople in stands, not corporate stands selling goods from China. Fun and Friendly, not large, but set among old village buildings (Rathaus) with a fortified wall overlooking the town from a hill above (lighted dramatically at night)

We attended the Christmas markets in Esslingen this year, and were impressed by the charm of the old town. The Rathaus is the highlight of the area, and the Middle Ages Christmas market branches out from the main square.

This is a must visit place in Esslingen. While the city itself is simply amazing, especially the medieval Christmas market, it cannot be fully appreciated until seeing it from above looking over the vineyards at the city below. To do this, you must visit Dicker Turm. It takes some stamina to make the hike up, but I promise you won't be let down!
