We did the tasting and I loved every one!!! Amazing red wines. During the weekends they have music. You can buy a bottle and they will cork it for you and have wine and cheese plates. It's a little off the road but well worth it. Family owed and so friendly. Also offer a wine club. Wish I was closer!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!

Visited really close to closing so the place was empty. It was on St. Pattys day though. The service was great and the bartender was helpful and had a fun and wonderful personality. I tried 3 different types of bourbon here and all three were great. The hellfyre Vodka is also a must try. Especially in the awesome bloody marys.
We did not get to take the tour while here so I can not comment on that.

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at the Long Hollow Canopy Tour. The staff were very helpful, making sure we were well briefed before we loaded into the UTV for our trip up the hill to the start of the zip line. Once there, they checked our equipment again, gave us a thorough review of the procedures and off we went! There were 7 platforms, 6 wires, a suspension bridge, rappelling, a quick drop and oh, yes, a 40 MPH run. There is a short hike between 2 platforms. We highly recommend this experience.

Take the house tour. It is about 40 minutes long and outlines Grant’s life and achievements. It is fascinating to imagine the Grant family occupying the various rooms
Our guide was very knowledgeable.
No charge although a $5 per person donation is recommended. Quite a sell on that aspect with boxes at the entry and exit points.
Worth a small detour if in the area.

Drove up the winding road to have a tasting. Thankfully, the host told us most his wines were dry. We like the sweet ones, so we ended up not doing the tasting, but we walked around outside. Unfortunately, it was very buggy so we didn't stay long. Quiet, serene, charming location.

Housed in the old school house, this place is full of treasures packed in every former school room, the auditorium, stage, etc. Good variety and most things were reasonably priced. Would love to have taken our time and shopped longer but it was hot outside and no air conditioning or open windows inside. A few fans going, but not nearly enough to make a difference in the amount of space this covered. Still found a few treasures to take home and would like to explore again...perhaps early winter. Worth the trip, if you can stand the heat.

Chicago's Fort Dearborn is laid out in metal markers on Michigan Avenue overlooking the Chicago River and portrayed in paintings at the Chicago History Museum. But Apple River Fort still exists, a replica of the original that was one of the few forts attacked during the Black Hawk War of 1832 and the only one attacked by a band led by Black Hawk himself. Located in present-day Elizabeth, Illinois, on the road to Galena, Apple River Fort was one of many frontier forts hastily completed by settlers in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin following the onset of the Black Hawk War. Apple River Fort was built in less than a week. After the war, the fort stood until 1847. Today, a replica of the fort stands next to the site of the original. Constructed between 1996 and 1997 by a non-profit organization, it is based on earlier archaeological investigations of the site which revealed information about the layout and settlement at the fort. In 1997, Apple River Fort was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Relatively few contemporary descriptions of the fort exist. But one of the more complete later descriptions--and the only one to mention the blockhouse in detail--was found in the 1878 post-Black Hawk War text "The HIstory of Jo Daviess County." It recalled a three-foot trench along the proposed stockade line, posts that were 12 feet high, a two-story blockhouse with the second story projecting over the other about two feet so the Indians couldn't come up near the building for the purpose of setting it on fire without being exposed to the guns of the settlers from above, two log cabins for living purposes and elevated firing stands or bastions. The fort was attacked by Black Hawk and a band of 200 Sac warriors on the afternoon of June 24, 1832. The fort was defended by about 30 men and boys along with about 40 women. The firefight lasted about an hour before Black Hawk withdrew. The archaeology at the site uncovered the original footprint of the foot, 50 feet by 70 feet. Living history volunteers provide a wealth of information about the history of the Black Hawk War, the Native American culture in the area and the lives of the settlers who built and defended Apple River Fort. If you're on the road to or from Galena, a stop at Apple River Fort in Elizabeth is worth the time.

To visit A Bushel & Peck you have to plan on going there, chances are you wouldn't be driving through Schapville IL. My wife, Grandson and I decided to visit this General Store, we came from the East along Stagecoach Trail, went South on Scout Camp Road and West on E. Schapville Rd. This is just a beautiful route, go slow and enjoy some of breathtaking homes nestled on the shelfs along Schapville Rd. Upon arrival we were greeted with a very warm welcome by the Country Store dog, he led us inside where we met the owner and talked with her for 15 min. before looking through the store. My 5 yr. old Grandson was getting a little restless so the owner invited us down to the chicken coop to gather eggs, how cool is that, my Grandson had never done that, he was excited and nervous..... OK I haven't collected eggs either............ except from the cooler at the Pick & Save, but I wasn't nervous! We had a great time, what fun. When we got back to the store my wife had a pile of goods on the counter, she also was having fun. This was a great experience for all of us. Looking back, the best part was the conversation with the owner, what a great lady. Please take a day and drive to this quaint little shop and enjoy looking at the antiques, re-purposed furniture and a great selection of caned goods. Try the Root Beer from Milwaukee it is so good. Most of all enjoy talking with the owner.

Saw the "Antiques" red/white/blue flags and stopped by on our way antiquing in the area. So glad we did. A very nice little shop with many really nice items and good variety. Nicely displayed and not cluttered like some small shops are. Prices very reasonable. Cashier was very friendly and delightful to talk to. So glad we stopped! Came away with a few treasures. Don't miss this shop!
