We offer fun rides for all capabilities including beginners right into the heart of the beautiful Sherwood Forest. Our aim is to get people smiling and enjoying the great outdoors on horseback. From the age of 3 years for paddock rides and from the age of five for treks. Fully licensed and insured and health and safety conscious.

I had booked a long weekend in Nottinghamshire for my daughter's 9th birthday on 5th September as a treat as our other holidays earlier on in the year had been cancelled. My daughter had just got into programmes about horses and really wanted to try riding. I did an online search and found Sherwood Trekking Centre. The reviews were good. I messaged them on Facebook messenger and arranged to book a trek on her birthday as a surprise. They got back to me straight away and we're very efficient and friendly, answering questions as to what we should wear etc. We were all novices. I was able to put a deposit down through BACs payment and pay the rest on the day. Prices very reasonable, £25 for an hour trek. They took our height and weight to match us with suitable horses. When we got there we completed the disclaimer forms and they were great at conforming to the covid rules, handing us the the riding school safety jackets and bibs to fit ourselves with verbal instruction and same with riding hats. They took the children round the field at first to check they were ok and we're sitting correctly etc. Then we set off for our ride to Sherwood Forest. We felt very safe as we were all lead individually. The horses looked really well looked after and had lovely temperaments. We had to go through the village to get to the forest and the horses were very used to the roads and traffic. I was also impressed by how good the villagers were with the horses. The cars were very patient and people smiled and waved which the kids loved. The walk through the forest was great. We even had a little trot. They let us ride ourselves through the forest with instruction, which was fantastic, and they walked beside us. The owner, Karen was lovely and chatted all the way. It was a fabulous first experience for the kids. It made my daughter's birthday! She absolutely loved it. We also got a full hours trek (the time taken to complete the forms and get kitted out didn't count like I thought it would). When we got back from the trek they all sung happy birthday to Poppy. I Can't thank Karen and her staff enough we had a wonderful time. I would 100 % recommend this riding school and we will definitely come again when in the area again.

When we arrived we were greeted by a very friendly gentle man by the name of Harold, who gave us a guided tour and explanation of the history of the Church and the local area. It was really nice to, one have the church open to the public (unlike other churches) and two, someone to explain the history and background of the church. The guided tour by the Harold was more informative about Sherwood, Nottingham, Robin Hood and the Kings than the actual Sherwood Forest visitors centre which had nothing. I would recommend that one definitely visits this Church and take in the beauty, history of the local area.

this is an interesting sight, who would have thought that a statue would be done of Robin proposing. Would make a good TV programme! Try Richard Greene as the star?

Sherwood Forest Art and Craft Centre lies in the heart of ancient Sherwood Forest, just a short walk from the famous Major Oak. Here you can see the artisans crafting their products and maybe buy a souvenir or two! Excellent cafe. Free parking (limited). Closed Mondays all year. (Some studios may be open) Closed Tuesdays in winter months.(Some studios may be open)

We had two excellent visits to this centre over one weekend. Charming mews layout, with covered light and airy centre courtyard. Crafts range from vibrant wools, fabric and paintings to medieval-style leather and gifts, and even older rocks and fossils. The essential cafe did not disappoint. The centre has its own car park up the lane, so you do not need to park in the expensive (£4) forest car park across the road. Open 4 days a week in winters day 5 in summer.

Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre is your gateway into a stunning historical forest; home to the legendary outlaw Robin Hood and some incredible ancient giants, including Major Oak. In August this year, the doors opened on the brand-new centre in its new location on the edge of the woodland. The centre and forest are now managed and protected by the RSPB and partners, who took on the project when the old centre came to the end of its lifespan. Sherwood Forest is heavily protected (SSSI), and the location of the old centre and car park was detrimental to some of our ancient oaks. Because of this, a new home was found on the edge of Sherwood, away from the sensitive areas of the forest. Now we've opened, we'll be working to bring alive the legend of Robin Hood in a host of new and exciting ways, including regular events, walks, costumed guides, children’s trails and interpretation! Every time you visit Sherwood, you’re helping support and project this valuable forest for the future.

I read some poor reviews about Sherwood Forest before I took my family for a day out which I think are unfair. The parking is excellent and very easy to find, the new visitor centre is great, the little shops and cafe have some interesting finds, the staff are very professional and knowledgeable and the walk in the woods to the Major Oak is great fun with the kids. I would recommend you visit, next time I want to take a picnic and spend the whole day there.
