Kiptopeke State Park

One of the best spots for bird-watching.

Reviewed By JC0420 - Cape Charles, United States

We go hiking and bird watching all year at Kiptopeke State Park. Because it is in the eastern most part of the state it is a very well used flyway for migrating birds. They also have a really nice Hawk watching station. The Park has an excellent boat ramp. The boat ramp may be a little crowded at times but if you are willing to wait a few minutes there is always a slot to launch and a place to park your truck and trailer. Finally, the Park also has a really nice beach so lots to enjoy.

Assateague Beach

We visited from the Toms Cove Visitor Center, though the center was closed both times we came - it closes at 4pm. The sunset there is unforgettable. Very few people visiting, and the beach is very clean. Tons of gulls for birdwatching. And of course it's beautiful just gazing at the waves coming in, appreciating the sea foam and reflecting on the world.

Loved this museum and it's super friendly staff!! Such intesting articles on display, very well maintained, and super clean. My husband and I were lucky to meet the 1957 Carnival Queen in person, made my weekend :)

Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel

At nearly 18 miles long, this bridge-tunnel complex is one of the engineering wonders of the world. Connecting Virginia's Eastern Shore with Virginia's mainland in Virginia Beach/Norfolk, this toll facility will save travelers 90 miles or more as they travel from points north of Wilmington, Delaware and head down the East Coast towards Virginia Beach or North Carolina's Outer Banks. Enjoy a stop at the Scenic Overlook, located on the southern tip of Virginia's Eastern Shore, offering breathtaking views of the Chesapeake Bay and the facility. AND, if you want to take home a remembrance of your travels, visit Virginia Originals Gift Shop, located inside the Welcome Center and Rest Area at the North Toll Plaza on Virginia's Eastern Shore. Construction of the Parallel Thimble Shoal Tunnel is underway and the facility will remain open to traffic throughout construction. Upon completion, a new fishing pier will open on the southernmost island in 2024. Don't forget your E-ZPass!

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge is an incredible sight. You drive for several miles over the bay and the views are breathtaking. You can see many ships in the bay and enjoy the smell of saltwater all the way across. Definitely a to do item.

We've been to Cape Charles several times now and love this beach with young children because of the very gentle waves, plentiful soft sand, and very shallow waters for even the youngest toddlers to play in.

My two teenage children are both vegan and we stumbled upon CC Brewing Company because they serve the BEYOND BURGER” which is vegan. The whole experience was great. The staff was so friendly and helpful. The beer ( not normally a beer drinker) was great. The food was fabulous ! The Beyond Burger was great. The fries were the absolute best. The soft pretzel great with beer. We sat outside ( although there was inside seating). Highly recommend if your traveling through you won’t be disappointed.
