We stayed in the bandas and they were great (clean and comfortable), but the real pleasure of the place is the people around it. Francis was a brilliant host, tour guide and friend. Made us feel entirely welcome and comfortable the whole time we were there and was very well-informed on the coffee and waterfall tours. Call him if you ever need anything around Sipi (+256 752 335809). See you all again soon, Oscar

These are one of the unique tribes living in the East of Uganda along the slopes of mount Elgon and ancient life of the Sebei cultures ranging from their social ,economic, and the their rule of administration. They belong to the kalenjin community whose origin is believed to have come from Abyssinian Highlands (Ethiopia). The Kalenjin clusters of people of today are descendants of migrants from the Nile River area of the Western Ethiopian highlands. One of their myths says they came originally from Msiri, a name for Egypt. They lived mainly under a chiefdom but due to the dominance of tribes they found in Uganda, they were influenced to create a kingdom which was formed up to date. 9. Cave Adventuring

Discover Sipi_Sipi Falls-Mt Elgon, Mbale-Kapchorwa Road, Sipi Falls, Tingey County, kapchorwa District_, Kapchorwa, Uganda Discover Sipi

Mount Elgon is a volcanic mountain. Due to its volcanic process, there was a lot of formation of caves. During the Sebei migration from Ethiopian highlands, they arrived to Kenya and lived in the west of Kenya where Mount Elgon lies and later moved further through the forest where they found Mount Elgon in Uganda, currently Kapchorwa district and south East of Mbale. Because they did not have permanent settlements and homes, they looked for the caves to stay and protection from the hostile karamojong rustlers who used to attack them. Today, the cave acts as a cultural heritage and Sebei ancestral home and a popular site for tourists. When the 19th Century explorer Joseph Thompson first visited the Mount Elgon region he discovered a series of deep caves in which herds of cattle sheltered and great piles of grain were stored.
