Kala Pattar

Reviewed By localboy66 - Oahu, United States

It's a must do experience by helicopter if you are not going to hike the Everest Base Camp trek for 14 days. The helicopter tour from Kathmandu takes only 3/4 of a day to go to Kala Patthar heil-landing area near Everest Base Camp at 18,000'. Our day was super clear with awesome view of Everest & surrounding mountains. We had an awesome trip with Altitude Air helicopters. I highly recommend this trip for anyone on a short timetable or cannot make the hike.

Mera Peak

Reviewed By thirdrockadventures - Kathmandu, Nepal

Mera Peak Climbing takes you across the remote Hinku Valley and to the summit of Mera Peak, Nepal’s highest trekking peak. Lying in Solu Khumbu, the region with the five highest peaks in the world, the ascent up Mera Peak is strenuous but non-technical. The route to the mountain is straightforward and the inclines are less than 30 degrees. If you are a novice climber looking for a high altitude challenge and your first Himalayan summit then Mera Peak is the mountain for you. Climbing Mera Peak offers unique experience as you will conquer the soaring height of 6476m- you will be rewarded with incredible views of jagged mountains surrounding the peaks, some of which are some of the highest mountains in the world.

Tengboche Gompa

Tengboche Gompa is one of the biggest Buddhist monastery in Nepal. It is also known as Dawa Choling Gompa which is located at 3867 meters. The famous Mani Rimdu Festival is celebrated every year in Tengboche.

Reviewed By gordond773 - Sunshine Coast, Australia

Have visited Tengboche several times and have watched it grow. The Gompa itself is pretty spectacular but it really comes alive during the Mani Rimdu Festival. Of my seven visits only one didn't coincide with the festival. Visually stunning, lots of colour and ceremony.

Namche Bazaar

Reviewed By AfishnamedArthur - Champaign-Urbana, United States

Namche is a “cross roads” to various trekking locations. It is a large village with lots of shops to purchase gear, food, etc. A great place to stay is Khumbu Resort at the top of Namche. It is a bit of a walk up but you are out of the crowds of Namche, have great views from the lodge, and you have a head start on your trek further into the Solukhumbu. I have posted a picture of the lodge owner, a wonderfully friendly woman.

Memorial to Scott Fischer

Reviewed By T4232XIjohnb - Toronto, Canada

The memorial to Scott Fischer is but one of dozens that dot the top of Thukla Pass. It's not hard to see why this spot was chosen to honour those who died climbing Everest and other nearby mountains - the location is stunning on a ridge with amazing views to the Himalaya range. One is overwhelmed by the shear number of memorials with many of the names being familiar like Scott Fischer. Fischer's memorial is somewhat unique in that his name is carved into a large boulder in a similar fashion to many Buddhist carvings one passes along the trails.
