Trail to Helgafossen Falls

We follow the river for a while, before reaching the rapids/falls. They are not exactly rapids for rafting on, but they are well worth a visit. The start of the route is marked at the underpass by Skeikampen Fjellandsby. Red arrows are painted on the wall. Follow the road to the T-junction and then proceed straight on along the path. This is where the cross-country ski trail runs in winter, so it can be a little wet in summer. After around 20 metres, take a clear path to the left. It is marked red. Follow the red trail to Helgafossen. There are several small rapids and picnic spots along the route. Follow the path out of the forest (by the old waterworks). Go left towards the little garage. Here you will find the red path back. After heavy rain, this path can be wet. The trail is great for families with small children as the terrain is easy. Note that at times of high water, the river can be fast-flowing with strong undercurrents

3. Trail to Skardbua

Skeikampen, Svingvoll 2652 Norway

Expert route at the top of Skeikampen. Its a steep climb up or you can start the easy way and take the chair lift to the top. From here you will find an excellent single track with a wonderful view. Here you can see into the national parks of Jotunheimen and Rondane. The route is technically and made for proficient and expert mountain bikers. Goes all the way north of Skeikampen at nice and difficult singeltracks end at the Peer Gynt road 9 km north of Skeikampen.

4. Trail to Kyrakampen and Knutsholoa

Skeikampen, Svingvoll 2652 Norway +47 61 22 50 00 [email protected]

Follow the gravel road to the left. At the crossroads where the road goes off to the left you’ll find a path leading up to Kyrakampen. Follow the path over the hill – this is the toughest part of the whole trail. Follow the tractor track until it stops at a cabin. Here the trail turns off to the left, past the small brook. After about 1 hour, you’ll have reached Ulvtjernet lake and from here it is another 30 min or so to the top. You can also visit Knutsholoa, a silver mine from 1850. Follow one of the paths down the north face of the mountain. The mine entrance is around 40 m long and ends in an 8 m deep hole. You therefore need to take a torch with you. The mine is named after Knut Rasmussen (b.1792), who was considered a “wise man” in his time. He tracked down water and lost livestock. When he predicted a large seam of silver in Kyrakampen, he was believed and mining started. Despite several attempts over the years, no silver has ever been found. Follow the same path back, or continue east on the path to Tresnipp Saetra and follow the road back to Austlid.
