Lake Willoughby

A scenic lake in Vermont that is called "America's Lucerne."

Reviewed By Sara G

We visited Lake Willoughby to attend a wedding and were astounded at the beauty of the lake. The description of "fjord-like" was very accurate. The air was clean and a welcome change from the heat and humidty of the south. The water was cold and bracing, but perfect for swimming. We enjoyed a view of the area from the Sentinel Park at the top of the mountain. Definitely hope to return. Would do more shopping before arrival since stores of any kind are minimal.

Mount Pisgah

A 2,751-foot summit that offers a clearly marked seven-mile, round-trip hiking trail.

We took the south trail and it started pretty gentle and then got rather steep. There was a nice view of Willoughby Lake about 1/2 way up called "Pulpit Rock", then an expansive mountain range view from the top. A little further down the trail toward where it links to the north trail are several outlooks over the entire lake and beyond (but they are quite close to the edge). Well worn/marked trail with boulder like steps much of the way. Took us about 2 hours to reach all the lookouts, with less time coming down.

Five of us went to East Burke to explore Kingdom Trails for a few days. We booked a 3 bedroom suite for the 5 of us. The rooms were large, the kitchen, lounge area was clean and seemed brand new. There are no real strikes against this hotel. It was empty the first night, the second and third it was packed due to HEMPFEST. The hot tub was large and warm, the restaurant had a wide beer selection, good food and decent service. The bike storage room was great. The only strike I would give is that the lighting in the bedrooms was poor. Each room had two side table lamps and that's it. No ceiling light and no light near the closet. I mentioned this to the front desk who was happy to receive the comment.

We will return. It's a new hotel with large rooms and convenient to East Burke.

What more could you ask for after a day of riding? Good, inexpensive beer (they don't charge a premium for the premium location). Burritos next door (not quite so inexpensive but delicious). Showers and massages available 20 feet away!

It's located in the parking area so you're always close. Hours are expansive. They even have heat lamps if it gets a little chilly (it usually does...)

Just returned from our trip to Vermont, our 2 hour trail ride was the highlight of our trip, we got to see some beautiful views of Burke Mountain. Debbie was great, she is very conscious about making your trail ride enjoyable for all levels of riding, we walked most of the time with very little trotting, but that’s what we wanted, a leisure trail ride. The next time we decide to visit Vermont and do a trail ride, we will defiantly be cutting it back to a 1 hour trail ride, the next day our legs and back were killing us, we are a couple in our 40’s…..keeping in mind, you probably won’t get to see the beautiful view of Burke Mountain on the 1 hour trail ride. Debbie made a set of stairs for easy mounting, so you don’t have to worry about how you’re going to get on the horse. I brought my IPhone with me on the trail ride because it fit in my pocket, and was able to get some good pictures. You do have to wear a hard hat

A bare ledge that juts 1,000 feet over Lake Willoughby; offers fantastic views.

Reviewed By S T - Sunapee, New Hampshire

This is a short hike but provides a breathtaking view of Lake Willoughby. The shortest trailhead is located south of the lake and on the right. The east side of Willoughby gap. The rock juts out of the side of the mountain in a near vertical position to what must be many hundreds of feet below.

If hiking in the area, this is a must see visit. Be sure to continue on to the summit for other great sites as well.
