Drohobych (Ukrainian: Дрогóбич; Polish: Drohobycz; Yiddish: דראָהאָביטש;) is a city of regional significance in Lviv Oblast, Ukraine. It is the administrative center of Drohobych district. In 1939–1941 and 1944–1959 it was the center of Drohobych Oblast.

This church is fairly close to The Cross of Exaltation but it is of a slightly different style and about a century younger. It is St George's or St. Yuri. It is regarded as one of the best preserved wooden churches in the region. We were shown over it by the Custodian and it had just received UNESCO recognition the day before when the American Ambassador had visited here. This hopefully means that some funds may be available to restore this church. Most of the frescoes date from the 17th C when the church was extended, some of them have been poorly restored but the walls and ceilings are covered in paintings of stories from the Bible and of the Saints. The painter(s) have taken an unusual approach to the Bible stories and have painted them in a style different from what you normally see like the one of sinners going to Hell was shown as a rather large and vicious looking whale (with sharks teeth!) and Judas was sitting on a chair in its mouth while the sinners were all lined up. Not to be missed and don't forget to leave a good donation. The Custodian only speaks Ukraine..A small .fee applies to visit this church and another one if you wish to take photos.
The church was also unusual in that there was a second church upstairs, access being only gained via a steep and narrow ladder. It is a lot smaller area being only above part of the nave and goes up to the centre of the church under the dome. The reason is that under the church cannons only one liturgy can be served in one alter a day. In addition there are old framed paintings and religious objects displayed around the church.
An inspiring church to visit and recommended and you would need more than one hour to appreciate it.

Очень интересное сооружение - крепостная башня времен Галицко-Волынского княжества. Она органично вписывается в городской пейзаж и находится рядом с католическим кафедральным собором. Очень жаль, что туда не пускают туристов и вход в нее закрыт. Было бы интересно осмотреть ее изнутри.

Отличный музей, посвященный городу Дрогобычу и окрестностям. Особенностью его является то, что он состоит из шести отдельных объектов. Две деревянные церкви Юра и Воздвижения честного креста (о них я писал раньше), галерея сакрального искусства, дворец искусств, отдел истории и отдел природы. Сегодня я остановлюсь на отделе истории. Экспонаты охватывают период от средневековья до наших времен, множество экспонатов и архивных документов, дающих представление о каждой эпохе. Композиция очень удачно тематически подобрана, и дает плавный переход из одной исторической эпохи в другую. Смотрители музея очень хорошо подготовлены и готовы ответить на любой, подчас каверзный вопрос пытливого посетителя.

Дрогобыч может похвастаться не очень большим количеством знаменитостей, рожденных в этом городе. Но зато среди этих редких гениев есть один всемирно известный - Бруно Шульц. В музее вы можете ознакомиться с его литературным и художественным наследием. есть немного личных вещей. Обязательно для посещения.

Костел Святого Варфоломея - один из старейших памятников архитектуры Дрогобыча. Строился от с конца 14 и до начала 16 века. Он сочетает в себе черты готики и барокко. Сейчас это действующий католический храм. Прихожане в основном представители польской общины города Дрогобыч. Место духовное, с очень хорошей позитивной энергетикой. Чувствуешь удивительное спокойствие и умиротворение. Костел открывается в основном во время богослужений. Например в будние дни, вечером он открыт с 16 до 18 часов. На счет утра сказать затрудняюсь. Богослужения ведутся на польском и украинском языках. На потолке и стенах сохранились старинные фрески. Прекрасный храм. Очень жалко, что нет в нем органа. Храм расположен в 5 минутах хотьбы от рыночной площади. Там очень хорошо.

Очень красивый памятник, находящийся в небольшом сквере недалеко от городской ратуши. Художник очень удачно изобразил основные человеческие черты человека, который занимается наукой - четкий и одновременно задумчивый взгляд и умело передал исторические черты - одежда 14-15 веков.

Всегда ходил в этот театр когда бывал в Дрогобыче. Большой выбор спектаклей, много постановок украинской классики, больше всего понравился Молочник Тевье. Также много спектаклей для детей. Актеры просто замечательные. Обратите внимание, все на украинском языке
8. Cross Exaltation Wooden Church

The wooden church Exaltation of the Cross was built around the early 15th C. It is made entirely of timber with no nails and this style of church is to be found in this region and in neighbouring countries as the borders have changed over the centuries. For it and the many other churches to have survived for so long and through many wars and probably without any fire protection is more than luck. At the present it is in need of some restoration work though considering its age, it is in reasonable condition when viewed from the outside. There are some paintings on the outside, rather faded but later we were allowed to look in side and the walls are covered in paintings depicting stories from the Bible. Their condition is quite good considering their age and lack of restoration. The church is still used but only on its nameday. To see the church you have to walk into the fire station when it is open, then take the path to the church but you can normally only see it from the outside.
Behind the church is an old salt mine still operating. Salt has been mined here since the early Middle Ages and it is supposed to be of a high quality.
The custodian of St George wooden church nearby has the keys to this church but it seems not to have any times when it is open. Only Ukrainian is spoken and donations to view it would be appreciated. Definitely a site to visit.

Не знаю с чего начать даже. На первом этаже качественные картины современного укр. художника. реально все по канонам и я бы себе некоторые на стену повесил. На втором этаже мы всей семьей получили шок. т.к. экспозиция. не смотря на малочисельность экспонатов просто очень приятно удивила. Обязательно посетите это место.
