Goetheanum

Reviewed By SkyDK - Denmark

This unique building is far more beautiful inside than the concrete mastodont outer appearance. Inside is where the uneven angles and colourfullness really comes to its right. This church like place still worships the Steiner way of life. remember to observe the surrounding neighbourhood houses build after the same principes.

Ermitage

Reviewed By sally g - Brighton, United Kingdom

Investigate, explore, experience. There are several types of walk, including a flat path to some ponds, and a forest path well-signed to various cave structures and aspects of the ancient hermitage where cultural artefacts were found. A quiet, reflective place. Public transport there: Take tram 10 from Basel SBB (main rail station) to Arlesheim stop (direction Dornach), about 20 mins. Yellow walking signs lead you through a few lovely backstreets to the 'English garden' where all the caves and dripping greenery are. Birseck castle, one of the 2 part-ruined 'castles' in the forest is open occasionally and used as a kindergarten. you can do a loop to include them, less than an hour and not much uphill - that includes some quiet time at various interest points. The ponds walk is a separate trail.

Basel Paper Mill Museum

Reviewed By 2acorns - Cleveland, Ohio

I'd been staying in Basel several weeks before I actually paid to go through this museum. It's terrific with hands on activities for all. You can get close up to all sorts of printing tools and the historic displays are excellent. I highly recommend going, especially is you are at all interested in paper arts or book making or printing.

Skulpturenweg

Reviewed By Frank M - Reinach, Switzerland

Within about 15 mins walk from the centre of Reinach or 5-10 mins if you park your car just off the main road. Really in the start of the countryside. With allotments, farms & woods close at hand. We started at the top of the hill and walked down backwards through the woods to the start. I guess either direction is OK. About 30 or so wooden carvings surprise you at every turn along the way. & there are a couple of benches to relax on part way through so you can just soak up the countryside. Great for kids.

Gempenturm

Reviewed By LukiLukeGO - Basel, Switzerland

This tower is pretty much an insider tip with few tourists visiting. It's mainly
Positives:
- Amazing view
- Free parking available
- Great value: only CHF 1.00
- Several places to make a fire and picnic
To note:
- this isn't an activity for anybody who's afraid of heights
- you must have CHF 1 coins - no change
- the view over the city of Basel is limited: there are trees in between
- its a little bit tricky to find this place: it's not too well labeled
- no direct public transport access: most convenient is by car
- if you like to go to the restaurant, check their opening hours before you go
- there used to be a down-hill scooter rental. Last I heard, it that it is closed "until further notice" (tower remains open)
- don't go up the tower during a thunder storm !!!

The Pantheon is a very nice restaurant. The atmosphere is interesting since the whole buidling is some mixture between parking garage and museum for old/historic cars. Kitchen is typical swiss, quality very good.

Dorneck Castle

Reviewed By Veggrower1 - Addlestone, United Kingdom

Schloss Dornach or Dorneck Castle is a vast ruin which has the potential to be a very interesting ruin. Not very well kept and without any signage to indicate the various areas and what they may be used for in the past. It was obviously at one time an important and large building but it sadly lacks the information in words and pictures which would bring it to life for the visitor. There is so much that could be done here to improve the experience and I would not go back again until improvements are made in telling the story and the history was explained.

The Rhine current was so strong so if this little ferry didn’t have its pulley rope we would have been down the river in seconds. It was fun and a must do in Basel!
