Al Karaana Lagoon

Reviewed By VinnieLondon_SE2 - Doha, Qatar

Al Karaana Lagoon is around 50 kilometres drive from Doha simply staying on the Salwa (Q5) Road. Take the junction AFTER the Al Karaana turnoff and then there are two brown signs to the Lagoon..then there are no signs at all!. You ideally need a 4x4 and head towards the reeds!. I couldn’t find any marked roads but there were two off road trails that lead to the lagoon. The lagoons were established from the cleaned water from the water treatment plant nearby, set in a fairly barren surrounding landscape. The lagoons have been established as a perfect haven amongst the reeds for a large number of bird species. Saw lots of different species ..worth taking binoculars and a decent camera. Lake was teeming with fish to support the high number of birds. Also spotted what looked like an Osprey checking reference books later..sadly missed the photo opportunity. An unlikely place to find in the Qatar scrubland. Great place for walking and a picnic. Only sad thing was the amount of spent shotgun cartridges around the lakeside so this clearly is not a protected bird reserve from local hunters. Still worth a trip out of Doha for something different and fresh air.

Hotel Park

Hotel Park brings something different to Doha. Amid the bustle of Doha’s West Bay business district, families can now gather to enjoy abundant green spaces, child-friendly play areas, good food and modern, accessible facilities. Hotel Park's sophisticated design and distinct architecture make for a unique visitor experience. Find a quiet area to read by the water gardens, picnic under the shade of a Date Palm, or lounge under the light of West Bay’s skyscrapers. Hotel Park is an illustration of Qatar’s commitment to social responsibility and the importance of promoting sustainability. Hotel Park deliver a world-class events throughout the year.

With loads of parking, fantastic green spaces, children play areas and a Costa Coffee, the Hotel Park next to Doha's spectacular Sheraton Hotel situated on the Corniche is a buzz. For me, it was definitely a place to rest having walked the entire Corniche. The park has plenty of shaded areas for a picnic and on my visit, there was an evening street food market too. If your on a budget and want to sample.local culture, the Hotel Park is the place to come on a late Friday afternoon or evening.

Simaisma Beach

Reviewed By Debangshu - Doha, Qatar

This is one of the best beaches I have seen in Qatar - beautiful, clean, sandy beach ideal for kids to play and with very good facilities - toilets at every 300 meters or so. The sea is also ideal for swimming. The access from Doha is also great - just about 35 mins drive from West Bay and proper road all the way up to the beach. for those driving sedans or small cars, no off-roading required. There is a 50QR entry fee for cars but it’s absolutely worth it. Access is permitted until 9pm in the evening and there are solar power lights on the seafront.
