What to do and see in Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh: The Best Things to do Good for Couples

February 12, 2022 Giuseppe Pratt

Serenely spiritual Dharamsala is home to the largest Tibetan temple outside of Tibet. It’s known for its religious iconography and is the monastery of the Dalai Lama, who holds public lectures a few times a year. Once you’ve restored your spiritual energy, enjoy a picturesque stroll to Bhagsu Waterfall or climb the hill to Triund to bask in stunning views of the Himalayas.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our couple’s massage at Shami’s Holistic Ayurvedic Massage Centre. He was extremely hospitable, welcoming, and attentive to our needs. He met us on the street to make sure we didn’t get lost :) He had two of his talented staff assigned to each of us. He set us up in a warm room with bamboo walls, relaxing music, and the scent of essential oils. My Ayurvedic massage was the best massage I’ve ever had. My wife’s deep tissue massage was skillful, deeply therapeutic and personally tailored. We got tea and a nice chat with Shami when it was over. We highly recommend!

Bhagsu Yoga Institute

Located in the heart of Bhagsu, north of McLeodganj, Himachal Pradesh, Bhagsu Yoga Institute offers a tranquil setting for Yoga practice. With a view of the valley, and clouds enveloping the mountains, you enter a calm and relaxed state, even as you struggle to stay upside down in a handstand. A little off the main street, the walk to and from the centre is just as soothing.

Attending the 200 hours yoga teacher training course conducted by Omji at the Bhagsu Institue is an experience I can only recommend. This yoga training is a perfect insight in the physical, mental, and spiritual practices of yoga. Omji is an experienced and inspiring yogi, with the ability to translate yoga philosophy into situations in the here and now. He spreads love and enthusiasm in his classes, and invites to practice yoga creating awareness within you, as well as with the physical postures on the outside. I also had the privilege to learn the Reiki method of natural healing from him, and learned crystal and singing bowls healing practices. Omji is an experienced healer with a calming positive energy and an amazing intuition that he applies during his teachings. As a rebirthing therapist, he also conducted me through a rebirthing experience. Getting to know Omji and attending his classes has been an extremely inspiring experience for me. He encourages to develop a deep awareness of how we live, interact and react to the world, showing the value of calming your mind and ego, in order to gain inner clarity. He is an inspiration to work towards oneself, and achieve inner peace and compassion for all, wherever we go, whatever the challenges of life are. So if you can, take the chance to attend his teachings and enjoy his classes!

This was my first trek to Triund. Since I went on a weekday and not in season, it wasn't too crowded - which I liked. I loved the trek and the views. I stayed the night at the forest rest house - it's very basic, as basic as it can get, but does it's jobs - provides you shelter at night. The sunset was amazing, and so was the milky way (no pics) on the clear night sky. Few things to note: 1. Must start trek from Galu Devi temple between 7-11 am if you are returning the same day. Only stay option is Forest rest house (Google search 'ecotourism himachal', the first result is website, select Dharmshala and then Forest rest house). I was lucky to get accommodation booking on the same day. Read 'lucky'. 2. Must carry raincoat, torch and anything else that's typically suggested (remember there is no electricity at Triund). 3. If you love dogs, please carry some biscuits. They must be rewarded with treats as they guide you and keep up your motivation.
