The wooden frigate ‘Jylland’ is one of the longest and most significant historic wooden ships in the world. Built in 1857-1860, it was both the first and last warship in the Danish navy with an originally inbuilt steam driven engine and sails – a cutting edge hybrid of its time, superior in speed with its long and slender hull. It survived 18 hits during the battle of Heligoland 1864 and worked as a royal ship, sailing King Christian IX to the Faroe Islands, Iceland and Saint Petersburg in 1874 and 1876. Since then, the old warship has functioned as lodging for soldiers and children of the rural districts of Denmark, as exhibition facilities of the National Exhibition of 1909 and others. Many times, it has faced the destruction of slow decay and being sold for scraps. Thanks to ardent people, skilled craftsmen and generous foundations, the proud ship survived and now resides in its dry dock in Ebeltoft. WELCOME ABOARD!
A really great experience, but there was not enough information about the daily working of this wonderful vessel of war.One example was the artillery-deck crew's individual function when manning the piece The children wanted to know how they loaded and who fired the canon. We could find no information on this subject. The level of technical information needs radicle improvement.Otherwise a great and adventurous-day of the kids that included rope making and sextant reading. The very fragrance of the shipyard and its functions were enjoyed by all.Thank Jyiiand.

Learn where the Bluetooth technology got its name and explore the Home of the Viking Kings at the visitor centre Kongernes Jelling. The visitor centre offers a unique and modern digital sensory experience for all ages. After visiting Kongernes Jelling, you can experience “history by foot” in the large monument area. The monument area is always open to the public, and can be visited on your own – there are signs and leaflets provided on site. Take your time to discover the large area. Free admission in both visitor centre and monument area.
About an hour drive from Aarhus, this is a great way to spend an afternoon feeling a real sense of place, with rune stones (carved memorials) burial mounds, remnants of a palisade and a sense of the conversion to Christianity. The museum is interesting and well designed, using high tech interactive exhibits to tell the Viking story, and gives a real sense of context to the historical site.

I found this sculpture as I wandered the pier in Copenhagen harbour looking for the Little Mermaid statue. The statute, I later learned, is about The Key to the Future - I found this statue rather sad looking. It is out of the way, near garbage cans and no one was around it, the tourists flocked to the nearby Little Mermaid though. Is it despairing for our future!!!!! Is there a key!!!! I thought a lot more about this statue than I did the Little Mermaid statue!!!!

We arrived early morning; It was cold and a little rainy We had a hot coffee People were welcoming and children friendly Our children enjoy the huge sand playground! The sculptures are amazing and surprisingly connected, even though they have been realized by different renowned sand artists. One of the best discovery during our roadtrip and certainly a must-see in Danemark!

If you decide to visit Frederik's castle, take the time to unwind in the gardens. The main garden is located on the back side of the castle and is done in the french style similar to Versailles. It is the result of meticulous attention over the past few centuries. There is also a hidden gem of a garden to the back left of the castle. It is quaint with a few benches, trees, ducks, and lots of lush greenery. It is a great place for a picnic if you don't have food at the two cafes on the castle grounds. Overall, a very relaxing spot. I can recommend this stop and I will return again.

YOU MUST DO THIS!!! I can't stress enough how cool these Forgotten Giants (by Thomas Dambo) are. We found Oscar on google maps and were able to park closer than the Arken Museum in a neighbourhood near a beautiful park. Oscar was the first giant we found and he made us so excited to find more! Beautiful stroll (easy for all abilities) to find him under his bridge.

A place gives a nice walk in the area, looking for the sculpture. There is also a lovely lake with picnic facilities around.
