Really good museum. Easy to park, lots to see and interactive elements for the children. Submarine was staffed by friendly and very knowledgeable old sailors. The 1860s Ramship must be unique in the world.

We travelled to Den Helder by train, the museum was an easy 20 minute walk from the station. We really liked the museum, the content was interesting and the whole presentation was very professional, and appealing to all ages. We liked the wind tunnel ! The Stoom cafe next door was nice too.

Fort Kijkduin (Museum and Aquarium)

History, views, and aquatic life. Something for the entire family. Museum provides a background of how war has affected the area, from when Napoleon had the fort built through its use by both the Dutch and Germans during World War 2. There are a number of artifacts from each phase, including the wing and pieces of cockpit from a Messerschmitt 109. Tour the fort from top to bottom. Be sure to climb the ramp through the outer wall to get a great view of the surrounding area. Take a break in the small cafe near the ticket booth. (There is a restaurant on the main floor, but it was closed). Then take a tour of the aquarium to see the local marine life, including the skeleton of the sperm whale. See if you can find the blue lobster.
