Zoutmuseum (Salt museum)

Reviewed By Hendrik_NL - Rotterdam, The Netherlands

The city of Delden lies in the heart of the salt mining region in the Netherlands. Here in the city of Delden in 1888 (by chance) salt deposits were proven to exist. Since 1918 the "Koninklijke Nederlandse Zoutindustrie" (Royal Dutch Salt Enterprise) has been active in this region with extracting salt from the salt deposits far underground. The "Koninklijke Nederlandse Zoutindustrie" is one of the predecessors and now part of the Akzo Nobel multinational. It is therefore appropriate that in Delden the "Zoutmuseum" (Salt museum) is established. This museum is dedicated to the properties, use, health benefits and dangers of salt (referred to of course is kitchen salt NaCl). Use and value of salt through the ages, salt extraction and refining and a collection of salt shakers form an unexpectedly interesting exhibition. This museum is to be recommended. Entrance is for a moderate fee. Free entrance with the Dutch annual museum pass.

De Oude Blasiuskerk

Reviewed By WorldTravelOne - Breukelen Ut

This church is rather small, but that fits the environment: Delden is not a large town either. The building has some nice details and the interior decoration is simple but elegant as well. There are some fresco's and partly stained glass windows.

Old Blasius Delden

Reviewed By bas k - Amsterdam, The Netherlands
