Winter's Hill Estate

Enjoy hand-crafted wines in a stunning natural setting. Estate grown Pinot Noir, white wines, and dessert wines show the range of excellent wines. Tastings take place within the winery so you can see, smell, touch and taste how we make our wines. Sitting atop the storied Dundee Hills of Oregon, Winter's Hill is owned and operated by the Gladhart family. Today the third generation is developing the farm established in 1961. Together with our employees, we manage our vineyards, fields, and forests for the long term benefit of our family and our community. We are proud to share our estate Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc (and a few other gems), and our land with our customers and visitors, and we look forward to your next visit.

I came to Winter's Hill on the recommendation from my B & B host. I had asked her about scenic wineries in the area and this was one of her first recommendations! The winery is set on a hilltop, which gives great views of the Coast Range. I greatly enjoyed the tasting which consisted of two white and three Pinot Noirs - I also got to try the Hans and Lena Pinot Gris (not on the tasting list), which was a delicious dessert wine paired with jalapeno and garlic hazelnuts. I ended up taking home a bottle of the Ninebark Sparkling Wine and the 2015 Block 8 Pinot Noir. I'd love to come back here in the summer when the grapes are growing!

Methven Family Vineyards

Methven Family Vineyards checked all our boxes. We wanted someplace to relax, enjoy good wine, and not be crowded and rushed, we found it at Methven. The tasting room sits in the middle of the vineyard and has a nice covered patio to enjoy the wines and have a view of Mt Hood and Mt Jefferson and indoor seating as well. The flight had 4 pours for $15 plus a bonus pour. All excellent. Dante explained each wine and did not rush us. Currently, no food is available, but they permit you to bring your own. Overall, a very nice afternoon.

135 acres of land to support B&B accommodations, gift shop/olive oil tasting, a nursery, garden, lavender fields and my favorite; wine tasting outside on Adirondack chairs with views of Willamette Valley. Ohh...glorious. I only tasted the Chardonnay but it was delicious; not too dry or sweet. Don't forget to ask for Jim Carr--he really knows what he's talking about.

Gorgeous location and well orchestrated SAFE wine tasting now that they've re-opened. Reservations are required, no tour is available, but a masked staff member will give you info, answer questions and bring small carafes of wine out to your well-distanced table on the patio. A delicious and relaxing hour or so after months of being locked up. We brought home a number of their wonderful wines.

The 45th Parallel wine-tasting was an outstanding experience where we were given pairs of wines, one Oregon wine and one French wine from Domaine Serene and it’s sister winery located in France in each pair. We tasted the pairs side-by-side and were given an explanation of the two wines, including nuances regarding the terroir of the wines. We were then given a food dish that was paired with the type of these wines (4 chardonnays and 4 Pinot Noirs). The wines were all outstanding, as were the food pairings. We spent close to two and a half hours enjoying this experience. Domaine Serene is an exceptional winery that produces wine- tasting experiences second to none. I have belonged to one of their wine clubs for over 7 years, and the experiences just get better and better.

On a recent trip to the Willamette Valley for wine tasting, Archery Summit was our final stop on a long day of tastings, and we came very close to canceling the appointment because we were getting a bit tired of wine. However, I’m really glad we still decided to stop at Archery Summit, because it was a wonderful experience and featured some of the best wine we tried throughout our trip to the area. We were very impressed when we entered the building and were immediately escorted through Archery Summit’s underground wine caves built into a hill, which are definitely a unique feature among wineries in the Willamette Valley. After walking through the caves, we were taken to our table that was in the tank room, which was also a fun setting for a wine tasting. Just the whole setup of it made us engaged and interested from the start. From there, the tasting proceeded very nicely, and I was happy to see that the standard tasting was all pinot noirs. I know wineries like to mix in other things, usually starting with a throwaway chardonnay. However, since everyone is really there for the pinot noirs in the Willamette Valley, it was nice to focus on those for the whole tasting. All of the pinots we tried were quite good and high end, but the ones that stood out to us were the Shea Vineyard pinot noir and the Summit Vineyard pinot noir, which we made sure to take home. Throughout the tasting, in addition to the wines just being great, our host definitely contributed to making it such a positive experience. He was very friendly the entire time, and clearly just loves showcasing the Archery Summit portfolio of wines and telling guests more about them. I felt like we got a really great introduction to Archery Summit wines and the Willamette Valley itself. He also gave us an extra pour of pinot gris at the end, which was a really nice palate cleanser, which I much preferred having at the end of the tasting, rather than the beginning. I only have very positive things to say about the tasting experience at Archery Summit. Having already been to multiple other wineries that day before reaching Archery Summit, our tastebuds were a little shot by the time we arrived, but the winery’s excellent pinot noirs still managed to stand out and impress us. The wines are pricey, but there is great quality behind it, which makes the cost well worth it. Our host also just provided such great, friendly service throughout the experience, which made us so glad to have stopped here. Archery Summit would definitely be at the top of our list for our next trip to the area.

Red Ridge Farms

For more than 45 years, our family has grown wine grapes, acting as stewards of the land on the hillside we call home. Since then our vision has grown to include Durant Vineyards Winery & Tasting Room, award winning Durant Olive Mill extra virgin olive oil, Durant Culinary, Durant Body Care, a specialty plant nursery, gift shop, overnight lodging, event spaces and expansive gardens. Our history here in the Willamette Valley – now spanning 5 generations – began with English Walnuts, Hazelnuts, Italian Prunes, and Cherries. In 1973 our family was among the first in Oregon to attempt growing wine grapes in the Dundee Hills. We believe that great wine is not created in the cellar; it is nurtured and shaped by the land. Durant Vineyards wines reflect the true nature of each vintage, the unique terroir of the Dundee Hills and our family’s meticulous farming methods.

This is my favorite place to take out of town visitors. The scenery is beautiful and the winery, Durant at Red Ridge, has a wide variety of wonderful, well-priced wine. Also, they offer a fabulous wine tasting experience in a private room if you call in advance. The other reason I love this place is their gift shop. It is about 100 yards away from the tasting room and features tastings of their estate-grown olive oils and balsamic vinegar. I highly recommend stopping at Red Ridge Farms.

Stoller Family Estate

At Stoller, our roots run deep. The family established the property in 1943 and the vineyard fifty years later. Today, we are the largest contiguous vineyard in Oregon’s Dundee Hills, and our fruit is 100% estate grown. We control every step of the process, from pruning to bottling and everything in between. The result is award-winning wines that are balanced, complex, and consistently exceptional. Much has changed from the original farm, but one thing remains constant: our pioneering spirit. Our winery is the first in in the world to receive LEED Gold certification, attesting that our winery is sustainably built and environmentally friendly. We constantly seek new ways to refine and protect our legacy, so that it can thrive for generations to come. Awarded 2014 Northwest Winery of the Year by Wine Press Northwest, Oregon's Best Tasting Room by USA Today, and one of Oregon's Most Admired Companies by the Portland Business Journal.

We went here for our first visit and found a beautiful view and tasting room on the porch with great wines, particularly the Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. You must call ahead and book reservations at $20 each since COVID-19. You must wear masks unless seated at socially distanced spaces and partaking in time tasting. We had an antipasto plate in addition to the wine tasting and an extra glass of an excellent Sauvignon Blanc which we purchased a bottle of. We highly recommend it and look forward to a repeat visit! Hospitality was excellent and the view and wines outstanding!
