Chef Alejandro is a passionate advocate for Peru - this comes through his careful explanations, thoughtful answers to questions, patience and high quality ingredients. It is a cookery class making two of the most popular dishes (ceviche and Lomo Saltado), cocktail making session (and drinking), fruit tasting, and explanations behind the ingredients. This takes place whilst being brought delicious morsels from the on-site restaurant. It isn’t the cheapest cookery workshop but we were there about three and a half hours and being guided and taught by someone who obviously cares so much about food and Peru, is well worth it. Just don’t mention Chile!

Yilmar took us on a tour of San Pedro market, allowed us try some of the local foods, showed us the best places to pick our produce, and taught us some of the history of what we were seeing and trying. He was amazing and his recipes are fantastic! I can't wait to try everything at home. Make sure to come hungry because you will leave full!

We take pride in our ability to give exceptional attention to each of our clients due to our small size - we are not a "tourist factory". ,,It's not our goal to teach Spanish; it's our goal to teach you Spanish."

Embarking on a 3 month adventure through Peru with minimal spanish vocabulary knowledge I wanted to join a Spanish school. After extensive research and communicating with various schools, it was the personal and warm emails from Mundo Antiguo that won me over. Before arriving Lucile was wonderful and professional, answering ALL of my questions within 24hrs. During my two weeks with the school my spanish had definitely improved. I was in a class of four students with two teachers. My teachers were welcoming and always smiling. Within two weeks of classes I could see there was definitely improvement not only in mine but my classmates Spanish. The practical classes once a week were fantastic! Not only to speak Spanish with others on the street but to also experience Cusco with a local. For accommodation I spent one week with a family. While I was further out from the city, the family I stayed with were extremely welcoming and the food qas perfection. Maritza my homestay Mum was lovely and she even came out to one of the ruins with us. The second week I stayed in the student accommodation which was right in town. The location was convenient and the bed comfortable and warm. Hot showers too. Oh and the view from the roof top was something special. The thing I love most about Mundo Antiguo is the extra activities and social events from salsa dancing to fruit tasting to dinners, karaoke, city tours and even hiking adventures, I had such an incredible time learning not only Spanish but also meeting and getting to know incredible people. The staff are also incredibly helpful answering any of your questions. I embarked in many adventures around Cusco and the advice from staff helped me get to where I needed to go safe and sound. I am so grateful for my two weeks with Mundo Antiguo and would recommend them to anyone wanting to learn Spanish and experience Cusco.

Peruvian Cooking Classes

Peruvian Cooking Classes is a new tour of cooking in cusco -Peru. You can choose your menu or a special Peruvian plate you want to prepare. Starting in the market with the peruvian Chef, preparing whole a menu and finally you enjoy it!

We took part in the 'Full Classic Peruvian Cooking Class' and were lucky enough to be the only people taking part on the day that we booked, but rather than rescheduling us they went ahead and gave us a private session! We selected Menu #1: Quinoa Soup, Aji de Gallina, and Chocotejas and learned to cook a truly delicious meal that I'm going to try and reproduce at home in the UK. Mayia and Reyna were excellent teachers, taking us through each step and being patient (with me, as I'm a rubbish cook. My girlfriend got most things first time!). It also really helped that they spoke excellent English. We went out to the central market to buy fresh ingredients - a great insight into Peruvian culture, and on the way there stopped off in their sister school to try some free chocolate samples. Overall it lasted a few hours including the eating and drinking, and was an excellent way to spend the afternoon. We've done a lot of trekking and looking at historical sights, so it was a nice change of pace, and I feel like I learned something. The company sends you the recipes afterwards, and tells you to get in touch if you need any further guidance in recreating the recipes back at home.
