Onondaga Cave

Descend into the depths of Onondaga Cave State Park and drop into a world of wonder: towering stalagmites, dripping stalactites, and active flowstones help make the cave a National Natural Landmark and illustrate why Missouri is often called “The Cave State.” Visitors can take guided tours into the underground wonderland. Open for tours seasonally.

My grandson, age 7, and I toured the cave yesterday. The guide was very informative, friendly, and patient. The cave is absolutely beautiful. The colors range from pear white to bright orange. My grandson loved every minute of the 2 hr tour. A bargain for the experience. Need good walking shoes.

Maramec Spring Park

Spring favored by underwater cave explorers.

Love this park and it's natural beauty. For some reason on our last visit, it seemed like the water was so much more clear and clean than the past few visits. Love walking along the stream up to the farm museum - kids always love looking at all the old farm equipment and home supplies - snacks are available for purchase there as well. The other museum has nice views of what the area was like originally. Out of all our visits, we had never done the driving tour so we did that over the past weekend as well - not a ton to see but interesting enough to do once.
Would definitely recommend a visit here if you have never been! If you plan on feeding the fish, don't forget to bring quarters and little cups to carry the food in.

No one here to gain entrance but still a good photo opportunity. The for sale sign on the front tells it all. Off the beaten path and no customers.

But if you prefer the surface, the park’s Vilander Bluff Natural Area provides a panoramic view of the Meramec River. Easy access to the Meramec River allows visitors to canoe or fish in a bucolic setting.

Onondaga Cave State Park is one of Missouri's natural wonders.
Tours give plenty of understandable information about the formation of caves, the creatures that live in them and how fragile the underground ecosystem is. Worthwhile trip for older teenagers and adults. Beautiful scenery inside the cave.
If you've got children than Meramec Caverns is a better (although significantly more expensive) choice. Both are off Interstate 44 on the St. Louis side of Missouri.

This winery is located in a non-descript building right off the highway. You will notice the sign with the giant grapes. Tastings are free - you can select 6 samples from their large selection of wines. I loved their wines. Friendship School White was my favorite.
They also have a large gift shop, and the Public House Brewery Restaurant is next door.

We recently attended a Friday nite function at this lovely, friendly, pet loving, excellent winery. The wine was wonderful, all the employees were fun, helpful and friendly. Even tho they were selling yummy chicken dinners, they allowed you to bring in your own snacks. The band was great and we all had a fun evening. This Thanksgiving weekend we heard the sad news that Peaceful Bend Winery and the owner's attached home burned totally to the ground. How very sad, they lost everything. Luckily no one or any of their pets were hurt. They've started a Go Fund Me Page. Hopefully they will be able to rebuild one day soon and be better than ever for all of us to enjoy again!!

The Murals of Cuba

Cuba is a cute little town on Route 66, not far from Springfield, Missouri. It's got an old motel, a few good restaurants, but the real reasons to stop your car and walk around town are the beautiful murals that decorate many of the public buildings. Not only are they amazing art pieces, but also historically significant tributes to Cuba's past. For example, there's one to honor the six young men from Cuba who died in World War II, another to commemorate the old bank building, and many others worth viewing. Cuba is referred to as the "Route 66 Mural City," a definite must see.

Definitely worth a visit. The people here are still manufacturing vacuum cleaners, so their knowledge is current, but the breadth of kicky, fascinating and ultra-retro exhibits in the museum is a revelation - knowledgeable "docent" leading the tour was great.

Quit traveling like everyone else and missing the treasures right off the road. Here's one!

This is a small winery with indoor and outdoor seating, a small selection of casual style food(pizza, etc) and good wine. The outdoor atmosphere is very pleasant. We went there for pizza with another couple and 3 of our grandchildren. We sat outside and there is a large yard area where the kids were able to play ball and frisbee. It turned out oto be a very relaxing day.

Two Olde Crow's Antique Mall

Reviewed By Karl G

A lot of these type antique stores on the road are nothing to "crow" about.

Seems to me most times they are basically there for people who want to just display their wares, because they sure have priced themselves out of bounds for any purchase from me.

This place was an exception. It has a lot of local artist pieces and other homemade items for sale. It had a good mix of items ranging from furniture to paintings to antiques to just items for sale.

What was very appreciated was a large selection of homemade googles when you walked in the door -free just for coming in. A very welcoming gesture indeed!!

I'll definitely go back next time I'm in the area.
