Visited here the day before Easter as the Emmanuel Baptist Church (where the zoo owners attend) was having a community outreach. The place was packed with appreciative families taking advantage of the church's & zoo's free entrance and the myriad of free family activities being provided by church volunteers. The zoo houses tigers, a lion, an otter, a bear, 2 sloths, llama, wolves, coyote, various monkeys & baboons, a zebra, lemur, birds, peacocks, tortoise, porcupine, plus lots of small animals for petting and feeding. The grounds and enclosures are well maintained with large walkways that were easily navigable even on a day as crowded as this one was. The animals seems happy and very well cared for. We watched as the zoo keepers lured the large black bear into it's secured house while they cleaned the enclosure and placed a fresh slab of salmon & some fruit out for it to eat...but the bear was obviously not that hungry and preferred to stay in the shady part of the enclosure for a nap :). The otter is an example of perpetual motion and was always drawing an attentive crowd at his enclosure windows. Other than the large cats and maybe the sloths who mostly preferred to sleep in the afternoon sun or hanging from the pen, most of the animals seemed perky and in great spirits even considering the huge crowds. My family has lived in the area and visited this place years ago when my children were being homeschooled and there have clearly been a lot of improvements made by these new owners. All in all this was a lovely day at the zoo! I would highly recommend supporting this wonderful family and their much improved facility.

What a unique business. Looking at the outside, an old theater, you don't expect to find what's inside. When you walk in, you are immediately hit with the aroma of what it must have smelled like in the neighboring woodlands, where the illegal moonshine was distilled many years ago. Then, you are amazed at the sense of standing in a barrel. Too cool! The tasting room/show room is round pine wood walls and ceiling. In the back, you can see the actual still, where they distill the alcohol. The owners shared stories of family history from the old days of making moonshine and invited us to taste the many flavors set out on the old theater concession stand counter. Great job of repurposing an old theater. You will not be disappointed. Worth the trip for a visit.
