The Cottesloe Civic Centre is Perth's best-built civic building. This extensive building was once the residence of Sir Claude Albo DeBenalles, who was once the richest man in Western Australia. The buildings and grounds were transferred to government, and opened by Sir James Mitchell in 1950. The quality of workmanship is outstanding. DeBenalles fell on hard times, he spent the last years of his life in England.
