What to do and see in Costa Blanca, Valencian Country: The Best Historical & Heritage Tours

August 4, 2021 Elouise Mccaul

Costa Blanca is the name given to Alicante's coastline in Spain, which stretches over 200 kilometers. It is an incredibly popular holiday destination for tourists, because of the marvelous weather and beaches. Costa Blanca is family friendly, thanks to the huge range of activities available there from beaches and golf to museums and parks. There are the beaches, such as Los Náufragos in Torrevieja with its volleyball nets, golden sands and Blue Flag status, or smaller beaches like Serragrosa with its crystal waters, ideal for swimmers. But there are also golf courses (particularly the Villaitana club de golf near Benidorm) and watersports facilities and cultural sites like museums and galleries, such as the La Asegurada Municipal Museum in Alicante which has extensive collections of Spanish art. You will need a couple of weeks on the Costa Blanca just to scratch the surface of its entertainment potential.

We will travel the Costa Blanca by road until we enter the Alicante mountain. A natural border takes us to a totally different landscape in just a few kilometers. Historical territory that gave rise to the birth of the Arab warrior whose legend is one of the origins of the Moors and Christians festival. Towns such as La Nucía, Polop, Callosa d´en Sarriá, Benimantell or Guadalest itself, are integrated into the landscape sprouting from the mountain itself. Stop at Polop de la Marina, the town where Gabriel Miró spent so many summers, authentic and local, we will drink water from its natural source. Then to Guadalest and visit one of the most visited and most beautiful places in Spain. We finish at the Fuentes del Algar, a series of natural pools and waterfalls that allow you to cool off in a unique setting. After the sources we return and end of visit. recommended comfortable footwear. Swimwear and footwear suitable for rocks (optional for bathing in the fountains).

No visit to the Costa Blanca is complete without a trip to its jewel in the crown, Guadalest. Enjoy around three hours of free time to explore this beautiful town. This shared guided tour has a duration of 5 hours. The village of Guadalest dates back over a 1000 years and is steeped in history, from the prison and dungeon built in the 12th century to the old washing house used by the local women and has just over 200 inhabitants. Guadalest is probably as well known not only for the symbolic castle but also for the reservoir which serves all main surrounding towns including Benidorm with their water.
