Mosquito Lake State Park

Reviewed By lzuga - Columbus, United States

Mosquito Lake State Park Camp Ground is in the midst of a major modernization to accommodate a larger number of recreational vehicles with full electric, water and sewer service. Shower house restrooms nearest the full service loop have also been updated with private showers, toilets and sinks in lockable individual bathroom configurations. The level RV sites are being upsized for longer vehicles but are still rather narrow and difficult to back in to. Some shady sites suitable for smaller RVs offer more privacy than the large vehicle sites without trees. Distance between vehicles is not huge but comfortable. Camp loop roads are sporadically blocked to through traffic when new sewer road crossings are excavated. Even while undergoing well planned and executed construction this is still a rather nice camp ground now that modernization is replacing antiquated facilities. The fishing in the lake is reportedly good and some sites are water side. Boat rentals are available not far from the camp ground and a boat launch ramp and pier re in the camp ground as well. I grew up near Mosquito Lake and visited often, long before the park was established. The lake has always had a late season algae and the water plant growth problem that some visitors complain about. Swimming is not that pleasant at that time of year. But in the clear skies and cool days of late September it was a nice escape from the cares of COVID 19. Park staff are all appropriately masked and park regulations threaten expulsion of those not complying with protection protocols. Restrooms are kept clean and sanitized and given that larger trailers make up the bulk of visitors at this time of year the restrooms are lightly used. Be forewarned, the Verizon signal in parts of the campground is miserable while at the park beach it is strong.
