What to do and see in Coron, Mimaropa: The Best Things to do Good for a Rainy Day

February 4, 2022 Natalie Tallman

Coron is a fantastic base for adventure, especially for underwater explorers seeking to dive amid the Japanese shipwrecks of the 1940s. Hop a guided mangrove kayak tour or practice your killer spike on the beach-volleyball court at Atwayan Beach. Jungle treks, horseback tours and island camping will further quench your thirst for the ultimate outdoor experience.

This bar (AKA Tribu Kuridas) had us visiting every night we were in Coron. It’s absolutely unreal. The best reggae music we’ve ever heard (especially Jasper and Nivra) and such a great atmosphere. The drinks are strong and really cheap, the staff are incredibly friendly and there’s a wall you can write a memorable message on. Loved it so much. No bar in the U.K. will compare!

Maquinit Hot Spring

Reviewed By Midtown303 - Melbourne, Australia

We were thinking "it's 30 degree, why would you want to go and sit in hot springs?" But, wow, i'm glad we did. We took a tricycle from the hotel, which cost Php 500 for the round trip and 1 hour waiting time. We ended up extending and spending 2 hours at the springs. The tricycle driver charged an extra Php 100 per extra hour of waiting. (There are also some nice views of the port / ocean on the way there.) We had aching muscles from island hopping a few days earlier and a long soak in the therapeutic hot springs certainly helped a lot. The entrance fee was Php 200 per person. There are some changing areas but there are no showers - hot or cold. (Bring your towel and a change of clothes for the ride home ) The Hot Spring is basically a large circular pool of about 20m diameter and about 3 feet deep fed by two smaller pools taking water from a natural hot spring. (the Japanese would call this an "onsen".) The temperature is apparently 38 to 41° (C) and while it seems quite hot when you first get in you quickly become used to it. There is a step or "love seat" around the edge of the pool so once you start to feel too hot you can sit on the edge waist deep or just soak the lower half of your legs. When we visited there was enough of a breeze to cool you down once you came out of the water. There are plenty of picnic tables and the small kiosk selling water cold beer and basic snacks. At the back of the facility where the spring water flows out to the ocean is a small viewing deck with beautiful views and great for photos. If you need to soak some aching muscles, or sweat out a big night of drinking, or just want a beautiful place to visit especially as a couple, then the hot springs should be on your to do list.
