We had a great day rafting! So happy to find something that our 6 year old and our 13 year old could both enjoy! Everything works like clockwork at Sheltowee Trace--Papa Smurf definitely has his system down! We arrived around 8:30 for our 9:00 trip. We signed waivers, viewed a safety video, received our gear, and boarded a bus to Cumberland Falls State Park where our rafts and guides were waiting. After being assigned to rafts, we spent a few hours on the river where our guide, Cheyenne, kept us safe and made sure that we had a good time. Down river, we joined a group of folks who were on a river boat cruise where we were provided sandwiches, chips, potato salad, cookies, and non-alcoholic beverages. We knew that lunch would come late (after 1:00), so we made sure to have a big breakfast before the trip. After an ~1 hour river boat ride, we boarded a bus back to the main office--I would say we got back around 3:00. Shower houses are available after the trip, and they are very clean and well-outfitted. It was a great day!

Harland Sanders Cafe and Museum

Reviewed By Bucky D - Springfield, Missouri

If you're traveling on I-75, you're traveling on the freeway that by-passed Corbin, KY, and the cafe of one Harland Sanders. You know Harland better as Colonel Sanders of KFC fame. He's the American legend who combined 11 herbs and spices into a pressure cooker to make some mighty fine fried chicken.

Very near the original spot, they've put together an accurate recreation of Sanders' original cafe, right down to the motel room he had on display inside his cafe. Why put a motel room inside your cafe? Because the woman of the household would always ask to inspect the rooms before allowing her family to stay there. Sanders' displayed his marketing genius by making sure ladies would need to walk through one of his modern motel rooms to get to the ladies restroom.

There's a full KFC restaurant inside the building, so come hungry and enjoy some of the Colonel's creation. It's so ubiquitous now that you take it for granted. Aside from creating his unique recipe, here's another piece of the Colonel's genius: he realized that by pressure cooking his fried chicken, he could reduce the cooking time down to a mere 13 minutes, helping to create the concept of "fast food."

It's free. It only takes a few minutes to absorb. But afterward, I hope you take the time to reflect on his innovations and how, at 65 years young, he found a way to build a true American success story.

The Corbin Arena

We attended the hospital gala with our friends from Corbin KY. It only took half of the arena and neither parking nor traffic were a problem for this event. There were some logistical problems, however. The gala included a meal and it took a long time for everyone to be served and the dishes cleared. Clearly, either the kitchen/caterer or the waitstaff (or both) were lacking.

This shop is located just east of I-75. You won't be disappointed. The shop is full of delightfully displayed items from dishes, glassware, quilts, kitchen items to rustic accents, and furniture, both natural and shabby chic. A good selection of vintage fashion and accessories, books and cookbooks and wall art as well. Outside are cement figurines and garden ornaments. Prices are reasonable.

Sanders Park

Reviewed By jazzydays - Goose Creek, South Carolina

As other reviews mentioned this is a quick stop to see the statue and park settled downtown where a building formerly was. It is located downtown with parking behind it near the train depot which is also being refurbished with a few train cars including a sleeper car. You can see more at the Harland Sanders Cafe and Museum which is also self guided, Sometimes downtown has a car show which can extend your visit if you enjoy walking downtown.
