I visited Contessa Entellina in 2017 for the first time. Being in Chiesa Maria SS Annunziata e San Nicolo was a dream of a lifetime. It was where my great-grandparents (bisnonni) and their ancestors (mine) had been baptized, married, and eulogized. It was an instant emotional connection for me. Recently I returned, but this time to meet with Papà Nikolas to go through the death records of the 1890s to solve a family mystery concerning one of my great-grandmothers. He was kind, patient and incredibly helpful. We solved the mystery and then some. I will certainly be back not just to continue my search, but to experience the beauty of this church and all who worship in her. Contessa Entellina is a gem of a Sicilian village ravaged by nature in 1968, but still standing and hopeful. This church is definitely important not just for the village's history, but its future.
