What to do and see in Connecticut Ave/ K Street, District of Columbia (DC): The Best Things to do

April 1, 2022 Viva Honore

Washington DC is a hub for American politics and history. Attracting as many school field trips as it does travelers the district offers a peek into the country’s democratic origin. There are plenty of free museums to take advantage of but the real draw here is the memorials and monuments dedicated to great American leaders. Spend some contemplative time at the Reflecting Pool within the National Mall, among the most patriotic places in the country.

I was in DC in February and had been to the Cathedral several times so I found this church next to the White House. It was a great place to visit with its cozy feel and Presidential history. Every President since it opened had attended a service here. I really enjoyed this visit and believe it is a wonderful parish.

We visited in order to see the ‘Women’ exhibition. The film documenting women who were making a difference was impressive. There is a permanent set of displays there also, but do look up what talks etc they are having. You can get there by Metro ; Feragut north on the red line.

National Geographic Museum

Five of us went to the Jane Goodall exhibit at the National Geographic Museum in Washington D.C. The exhibit was excellent and it is there for a couple of months or so. It features the story and photos of Dr..Goodall working with chimpanzees in Kenya, Africa. The cost is reasonable--about $15 -25 a person. The exhibit is multi-media with videos, film, writings, physical objects, etc. Go to the National Geographic Museum site for more information on this fantastic exhibit. I have some photos which I will add later. This is a very inspiring exhibit which really surprised me because of the link between Dr. Goodall and the famous paleoanthropologist Robert Leakey. But for the encounter in Africa of these two, Jane Goodall would never had a lasting relationship working with the chimps.
