Largest Live Oak in Texas

Reviewed By GFPretired - Burleson, TX

We stopped by to see this tree because have seen the "largest" live oak in Rockport, TX. This is really neat tree. However as we were starting back to our car a gentleman walked up to us and asked if we liked "my tree?" He then went on and explained that he used to live on the lot where the tree is. He then told us that he had read about the big live oak in Rockport and that after driving down to see it, he became interested in measuring this tree. He did that and, under the rules at that time this tree was second. However, the rules were changed recently and, as of 2016, this is the largest live oak in Texas

Quirky Country Market

Reviewed By Pkrekeler - Houston, Texas

This market is off the highway. It is between Columbus and LaGrange--pretty much in the middle of nowhere (in the country).
This store is green. When I say that, I mean they're solar powered and proud of it.
This market sells just about anything and everything you can imagine. From cute bandaids to glass containers to screwdrivers and purses, they've got it.
They also have an artist that creates outdoor art from found objects. It is amazing.

You must visit the outdoor gardens and the train room too. The compostable toilets are a hoot--motherboards on the ceiling!

They've got manners because they're very good about offering you a bottle of water (free!).

If you are anywhere in the vicinity or are looking for a road trip, you need to visit this place.

Howell Canoe Livery

Reviewed By MkBibble - College Station, Texas

Over the years we have used many canoe services on many rivers, some small one man operations and some huge outfits with multiple busses. As of March my family and I have used the Howells' services four times. Frank treats everybody like his best friend and the kids love him. He is especially good with members of the group that might have some concerns... The equipment is always clean and in great condition.

I'm sure we will be back multiple times this summer.

Tucked away for sure and you need an appointment to get it. If in the area worth the time and effort for a short visit. Many better museums for sure but this town is quaint and a pleasant place to visit.

While Columbus is a fairly small town, the Stafford Opera House is an awesome addition to the town. I can only imagine how proud the residents of Columbus were back in the day when this beauty was first built.

I loved shopping here. There are lots of puzzles and games that are intriguing for kids. They also have drawing and painting gifts for kids. I was only shopping for kids gifts but they also offer adult painting parties which some of my friends have done.
