What to do and see in Colorado, United States: The Best Cultural Tours

January 6, 2022 Nicolette Lion

Colorado is home to no less than twenty-six ski resorts such as those in Vail and Breckenridge; other winter activities include snowboarding, sledding, sleigh rides, snow hiking and snowmobiling. The state is blessed with national parks, grasslands and forests where in warmer weather you can enjoy hiking, mountain biking or rock climbing. Wildlife abounds, from bears to moose and raccoons to wolverines. More interested in local history? Head for either the Ute Indian Museum or the Koshare Indian Museum, and don't miss the forts such as Fort Garland and Bent's Old Fort. For a complete change, why not take a ride in a hot air balloon from South Park Valley or Boulder and admire Colorado's picturesque landscape from above?

Brad did a great job getting us to our destinations and had a lot of information along the way. There was a shield between the front and back seats for COVID safety. Would recommend Brad but would insist the vehicle be sanitized before the trip.

We all love Mesa Verde National Park: it represents the "tip of the iceberg" of the Ancestral Pueblo culture in Southwest Colorado. Increase the depth of your knowledge by visiting Canyons of the Ancients National Monument (CANM) with an experienced guide from SCCA (Southwest Colorado Canyons Alliance)! CANM was dedicated by Presidential decree in 2000 to protect the estimated 30,000 cultural sites and spectacular scenery within its 176,000-acre boundary. This region is the ancestral homeland of today’s Hopi, Zuni, and Pueblo people in New Mexico and Arizona. Your guide will share little-known places within the Monument and a deep understanding the landscape and cultures that lived here. Group sizes are limited to 14, so your guide will be able to address any questions you have about the history, geology, plant and animal life, and archaeology of the region. As the Friends of Canyons of the Ancients National Monument, SCCA guides know ALL the best places!

Took my 19 year old daughter and her friend on this tour and it was a good time. I liked the history of the sites and the area the guide included. It is a leisurely walk but there is a lot of walking. I would not recommend for handicapped individuals. Parking in the area is free on Saturdays and Sundays but I suggest taking an Uber as it's just basically park where you can find an open meter.

Although it holds a reputation as a hub for the ultra-liberal and rich hippies, Boulder is much more than yoga studios and vegan restaurants. On this self guided audio tour, you'll see some of the expected locales—a Buddhist meditation center, and the farmer's market—but there are some lesser-known gems to be discovered as well. Sip some oolong in the ornately decorated tea house, dip your toes in the creek (if it's not flooded), and marvel at the gardens surrounding the Historic Highland Building. By the end of the tour, you'll probably want to stay in town forever. Welcome to the People's Republic of Boulder!
