Beaver Brook Falls Natural Area

Popular scenic hiking area.

This is one of many Natural Wonders in the area. Spring is a great time to catch the mighty magnificence of the falls, but it is truly beautiful in all seasons-even when almost frozen. There are hiking/walking trails and a little pavilion to have a relaxing lunch in the Great North Woods.

Dixville Notch State Park

Reviewed By KayTee9 - New England - USA

We took a motorcycle trip through Dixville Notch and the Dixville State Parks. Just beautiful. Really beautiful. The ride was quite an adventure, as there are narrow roads and spectacular cliffs. No boring flat riding. The trees are immense and grow thickly, and the cliffs tower above the road. We saw ponds and rivers and brooks through the trees, and even a deer bounding across the highway. There are places to stop and rest, and well-maintained campgrounds and hiking trails. Utterly spectacular, and well worth the visit. I think the back of a motorcycle is the best place from which to visit this area. You feel really close to nature. We even saw The Balsams, which was quite the luxury resort in its day. People told us that it was closed now, but there are plans to reopen it. I hope so. I'd stay there in a New Hampshire minute!

Try to make a stop on our way to or from Pittsburg. I go in specifically for the wee forest folk collection. Owner is willing to order any they didn't carry. Also a great collection of jewelry and everything else.

Though the buildings are run down, what's in them is well worth seeing. Propaganda flyer from the Spanish American War, advertisings and clippings neatly displayed and well worth reading (don't miss the Advice to Wife and the Circus ones) and great collection of farm equipment and old clothing.
