Each year since 1977, Spoleto Festival USA has gathered renowned artists as well as emerging performers in dance, music, opera, and theater for a 17-day artistic celebration in the beloved Southern city of Charleston, South Carolina. It is internationally recognized as America's premier performing arts festival. More than 150 ticketed events fill Charleston's historic theaters, churches, and outdoor spaces—from the historic Dock Street Theatre to the picturesque College of Charleston Cistern Yard—contributing to the rich cultural fabric of the city. Spoleto Festival USA is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. The 2020 season will take place May 22 - June 7 in Charleston, South Carolina.

When the sun goes down, the gardens are lit up by 23 hand-made, 3-dimensional, brightly colored silk and steel sculptures spread over 9 acres that make up the “Lights of Magnolia: Reflections of a Cultural Exchange” lantern festival -- the first authentic lantern festival at a public garden in North America. The magnitude of this exhibit is matched only by its magnificence: the displays, built in China and shipped to the U.S. for assembly on site, filled 11 tractor trailers! The dragon, which is 200 feet long and 45 feet high at the head, is constructed using 26,600 pieces of porcelain dinnerware (see detail in photos). Insight into the “behind the scenes stories” of these structures makes wandering among them even more magical. “Lights of Magnolia” is open Wednesday thru Sunday for 4 months, ending 3/15/20.

This event is a unique National Award-Winning event comprised of a multitude of shopping and entertainment options, for individuals and groups alike! The cornerstone of the event is a Victorian Holiday Marketplace. Here against a Victorian Holiday background, one will find 300 plus period clad vendors hawking everything from jewelry, crafts, gifts, toys, art, gourmet foods, holiday decor, and much, much more. There probably is truly something for everyone on your holiday list, but the fun doesn’t stop there! Strolling Victorian Musicians, Tea Leaf Readers, Punch & Judy Shows, Shadow Box Displays, a Life-Sized Historic Santa through the Ages Exhibit, and a real live Santa, each lend their own charm to the show. Adding to the experience are the elaborate Festival displays of Trees, of Tables, of Wreaths, of Worlds, and Stockings. All displays are available for purchase at silent auction with 100% of the funds going to charity. *COVID safety protocols will be enforced*
