Miles of white sand and romantic island resorts beckon from the hem of the Palmetto State. Families gravitate to Myrtle Beach and the 60-mile span of Grand Strand, where over 100 championship golf courses, tennis courts and nightclubs await. Charleston’s hundreds of heritage buildings, and irresistible charm, are part of its allure. Beach resorts at Kiawah Island, Seabrook and Edisto Island make for romantic getaways. Marshes, moss-bearded palms and oak groves create ambiance in the haunting Lowcountry.

Cool little place, so atmospheric around sunset, creepy even (in a fun way). The paved path to it is covered in graffiti (its a tradition). Mostly positive messages, although you do get the occasional jerk making obscene images. I think it used to be all chalk, now there are people spray painting, which is unfortunate; it smells bad and the messages were never meant to be permanent. The beach itself is dramatic and beautifully desolate, with gnarly old trees and a great view of the lighthouse. Not sure how far the tide comes up but it looks like a place that you could get trapped in spots during high tide.

We were able to upgrade to a beach side campsite due to a cancellation. The other campground looked nice but without another vehicle or bikes it was way too far from the beach. Our site was amazing. We could hear the roar of the waves just over the dunes. Dogs need to stay on a leash but are welcome. The beach is loaded with shells and another camper found something that appears to be a mastodon molar. Restrooms are close and clean. It was a half mile to a mile to several restaurants, but nice options. The Bi-Lo is under construction but will soon reopen. There is no laundry on the Island. Dump station is out on Rt 174. Great place for a few days, but bring bug spray.

Me and my husband came on a anniversary trip from Michigan. Its such a cute town. I read the other reviews with complaints on parking ..... Its a downtown.. so if anyone is use to a downtown ... they should know things fill up FAst and this is a big tourist attraction. We found parking along the beach area i believe it was $6 for 4-5 hours. It was not unreasonable. And some do find free parking along the downtown streets or around the vacation home areas. When there the downtown plays Caribbean music and the colors of the buildings are like being in the Caribbean. Right away i told my husband it feels like we just ported somewhere off our cruise ship and just stepped in the Bahamas lol. It was nice to feel so relaxed and a great get away. We went first in the ocean, and the water was soooo warm. We are from fresh water.... we don’t have warm water lol so this was a nice change. We did spot several pods of dolphins in the distance when we were on their pier. They have some shops on the water edge but more of them are in the surrounding downtown. Reading the reviews on the masks .... sigh ..... PEOPLE ARE OUTSIDE!!!!! Coming from michigan it was a nice change to see people living like normal a bit and not living in fear and not simply existing through life. I had one woman in a shop on the beach get ugly and tell me to put on my muzzle and honestly her tone kept me from buying anything. As for the small shops i didn’t go in many but from what i could see many were wearing masks while in them. I come from michigan where i quickly learned the fears for us are not the same for our state governor and when that happens, yeah the fear goes out that window. It was nice to live free in other states and enjoy life a bit and not be fed the fear day in and out. We are feeling great and refreshed and been back 3 weeks now and miss it greatly. I love THIS TOWN. Its great for shopping ( More so after november I’d bet ) its great for the beach. The beach is clean and felt very safe. I’d travel here again next time i come back. Highly recommend.

Disclaimer: I've been spoiled by Florida Gulf Coast beaches over the years, so at first I was sad, but not surprised, to discover a lack of soft white sand and crystal clear blue waters. But the beach itself was still very much worth the drive. This is perhaps one of the widest beaches I've seen from shore to water - especially when the tide rolls out. There's so much space that you can sit back from or move away from the crowds and find your own peaceful part of this paradise. And that's the thing, it feels like paradise because the crowds are small. Due mostly because the only way to access this public beach is through the parking lot. There's no parking near a store or a side road and simply walking over - unless you're renting a vacation home or staying in the nearby resort, which I believe has its own access point. You have to pay a modest fee to park in the lot but it's good for the whole day. It's not a small lot but it's not super big either - maybe 70 cars or so can park, give or take. So you can see why the crowds are smaller than most. But don't let that fool you into ease of getting in during peak season — every space was filled by the time I left mid-afternoon. There's also a snack bar, restrooms, changing rooms, outdoor showers - all very convenient. There's even a place to rent chairs and an umbrella for the day on the beach - they set everything up for you. The one thing missing were the shells. I only found the tiniest of sea shells, unfortunately. You can find bigger and better elsewhere but other than that, had a great and much-needed restful day at the beach!

Singleton Beach

We stayed at a condo on Singleton Beach for the week before Memorial Day and spent most of our waking hours on the beach walking, riding our bikes, relaxing or people watching. We LOVE this area. The beach is wide & we were able to walk and ride our bikes for a long distance in both directions. While there are a few parks providing public access to this beach, it was not too congested while we were there. It was nice to see people of all ages enjoying the sun, water, sand and nice breeze. There were a few people fishing off of the beach, but not near others. We watched 2 catch small sharks and another battle something that we presume was a stingray though, after 25 min. of watching, we didn't see if he ever reeled his catch in. We were there during the time period that the loggerhead turtles come onto the beach to nest. Each morning, we were on the beach early & saw tracks, but missed seeing any turtles. Next time, we'll go out during the nightly high tide regardless of the early hour. We enjoyed exploring the area where the ocean water pours into a marsh (seeing the masses of fiddler crabs) and seeing clams during low tide down the beach quite a ways near Mitchelville Freedom Park. We hope to return to Hilton Head again and will plan on staying at a condo on Singleton Beach again.

We spent ten days at Folly Field Beach recently and really enjoyed this beach. Their was a nice boardwalk that ended with a blue tarp type of of walkway that makes it very easy to pull your beach wagon. The beach is clean & not crowded. Dogs are allowed on the beach this time of year & it was fun to watch them playing in the water.

Simply put, with the large parking lot, bathroom and shower facility, then nice walk to the beach, everything that one would need for having a good time starts with Driessen Beach Park. We've been visiting every year since the 90's and look forward to it every time. As our children begin starting their families, I would expect this will continue to be a destination for the next generation.
