Winery experience geared for those that are wanting to learn! My husband and I are moderately practiced wine "tasters", even so, Tim challenged us to think about the entire sensory experience. Tim and Kandy also make some absolutely fantastic wine. We very much appreciated all the time they spent with us, answering any questions we had about different parts of viticulture and viniculture. We had a very fun time, and highly recommended to any wine enthusiast.

After placing phone calls to nine different vineyards in order to get a tasting, and a tour, we were directed to the J. Rickards Winery. ( I understand that this is a VERY slow time for the vineyards.) Kristina met us with smiles and open arms. She answered every question we asked about vineyards, told us about each of the wines we tasted. Since we are RED lovers, we were able to sample only those wines. Just loved them. We were able to spend some time sampling and enjoying.(I realize we were the ONLY people there and thus she was able to spend ALL of her time with us. She then took us on a tour of the "cave, " which is a tunnel buried under the ground in which they store their wines in oak barrels for aging (along with several other wines from various local vineyards). In addition, they have a great wine club in which you can order a minimum of three wines every three months, and they are send for only five dollars shipping! A great experience which we will long remember. Check with your time-share or hotel to see if they sponsor this visit for free.

Fritz continues to produce some of the best Pinot Noir in California. All their wines are top notch and their grounds are spectacular. Get an appointment to go on a Winery tour. The process here is unique and fascinating. The whole underground complex is so cool. Literally! Even on the hottest of days it's cool down there. The tasting fee is one of the most reasonable in wine country. Fritz has just started producing olive oil as well which is quite delicious!
