The region of Chinandega where Cosigüina volcano is located is a tropical dry area, so do not expect cool weather, instead you will experience one of the wildest humid and warm places. During the hike you will be able to see many birds and if you are lucky (and early enough) you may see some small wild pigs and almost for sure the steps of the wild deer. Do not go without a guide, there are many confusing trails that may make you lose your way. The views at the summit are gorgeous and you will feel like the effort was worth. When back in Potosí you can learn about the local fishing business and if you dare you can swim in the local popular natural swimming pool. There are two roads to the Cosigüina summit, I would recommend the Potosí trail for those who want a full experience and the Cabo de Hornos road for those who want to hike the shortest way. Both are worth, but always go with a local expert guide.

I was surprised by some of the negative reviews because my friend and I had an awesome time with this tour! Ronaldo is super knowledgeable and obviously very passionate about what he does. The whole tour was very thorough, you learn everything about the rum production from start to finish, as well as the history of Flor de Cana and not to mention some delicious rum tastings along the way! The tour takes about an hour and a half and only costs a modest $10 for foreigners. Even if you don’t like rum, just learning about the production and history and how it is stored is a unique experience. I’ve been on many factory tours in my travels and this one is definitely in the top three. I highly recommend! Thanks Ronaldo for the great experience!
